He and his people are drawing up the plans to impeach Obama, repeal the healthcare legislation, privatize social security and shift even more of the financial burden of governance to the rest of us, the "great unwashed".
And, rather than mounting a defense to this planned onslaught, we are pissing on each other as we argue about who is an unthinking Obama lover and who is a cynical Obama hater.
I posted what I thought was an encouragement to put aside our differences in order to help hold onto our Congressional majorities last night.(

We apparently are so intent on our self-polarization that we pursue it even as we cluck about "those who vote against their own self-interest". It seems that anything short of outright disgust and criticism of Barack Obama and the Democrats now in power MUST be characterized as "cheerleading". On the other hand, any mention of the administration's perceived flaws or shortcomings MUST be answered with accusations of "wanting Palin to be president".
I have many times managed to piss off both of the extremes here. This is not because I am some "feather in the wind" who changes his opinion to fit in with the perceived popular view. I simply think there is something to be said for both camps; those who want to support the president and the Democratic Party and those who think he has made some serious mistakes.
Is it possible for us to take a deep breath, THINK about what we are saying and posting and maybe, just maybe, acknowledge that those on this board, trolls excepted, have much more in common than that which occasionally divides us?
Can we get over ourselves long enough to at least try to preserve the progress we've made and possibly even improve things in the next two years?
Though I'm sure many have disagreed with what they've read so far, I think this has been a reasonable and respectful post in that I have not engaged in name-calling and I have not questioned anyone's motivation or integrity. But, on one issue, I find it very difficult to be restrained.
Those who casually state that there is no difference between the parties are, for me, simply beyond the pale. We can talk about how our party is not all that it could be, should be. But, to equate Democrats with Republicans is either a willful lie or ignorance of such a magnitude that I cannot conceive it being anything other than willful also.
This is Democratic Underground and we are a hell of a lot better than we've been acting lately.
So, we going to continue providing Karl with ammusement or are we going to do something to defeat him and the other reptiles he pals around with?
