It's sad to see July 4th being pushed aside.

Apparently our nation has decided to "celebrate annually", the events of 9-11. It's odd too, because as we go down the path of excessive remembrances of this great wrong done to us, we go down the same path that creates centuries-long animosity. (Remember the whole Kosovo flare up was for a massacre that happened in 10-something?)

I know the history of 9-11, but is it right for the biggest-baddest democracy in the whole wide world..ever.. to celebrate an attack made by 19 men (from countries we we considered allies) with box-cutters, who managed to bypass lax airport security, and who brought down the (then) two largest skyscrapers and hit the HQ of our entire military system? Why would we want to elevate this severe lack of military due-diligence.

It's a good thing to look-back, and to learn from our mistakes & flub-ups, but to turn this disastrous failure of the Bush administration into an annual self-flagellation, replete with pomp & circumstance combined with irrational religiosity, scores an 11 on the 10-point Ick Scale.

1. It's not a celebration but a memorial.

2. Not much difference when the media cranks up the volume
:(

It;s too bad that a questionnaire was not sent to the families of the ones killed & injured ...to ask them how the commemoration of the event should proceed.

I know they will never forget, but the phony media griefgasmic wallowing is excessive, and probably does little to relieve any of their suffering.

13. Or 12/12 for that matter
December 12,2000. Now there's a day that will live in infamy.

3. Just wait until next year
I imagine the "10th anniversary" media hype will be the most ridiculous thing on TV since Ronald Reagan's 4 week funeral.

5. Eh, it is already fading.
At this point 9-11 is a campaign stop.

6. The official Conspiracy Theory gets more ridiculous every time I hear it....
"Yep, with almost an hours warning, there was nothing we could do to protect the Pentagon." :eyes:

8. That piece was always the smelliest.
Every skeptic focuses their venom about the "WHAT hit the Pentagon" question, but no one ever asks HOW it was hit in the first place.

Yeah, I guess planes the FAA all KNEW were loose and hijacked an hour before the fact are allowed free joyrides through D.C. airspace. COMPLETELY plausible. NOTHING wrong with that explanation at all!

10. The cell phone calls from the air! That smelled bad to me. Still does.
Just not plausible.

9. It was cheapened once it became a political tool.
As a result, nobody takes it seriously anymore.

11. I suppose it was intended

to be a political Powertool from the beginning.

It worked...we are now under the Patriot Act, we're spitting on the Geneva Conventions, and private contractors aka The Bloviated Elite have all our cash...

and we've killed a bunch of brown people who live close to the Oil we need

Evil politics is all it ever was

12. 9/11 will be like Pearl Harbor Day
4th of July will outlast it - easily, and for obvious reasons.
