TIPPER GORE: "HE'S NOT DOING IT!"
Steve Jobs of Apple. "Like many others, I have tried my best to convince him. So far, no luck."

In recent months, as Gore moneymen were recruited by other campaigns, they checked in with Gore. "I said, 'If I'm raising money for the wrong person, please tell me,'" says one. "Everyone asked that question, and his answer was always the same: 'Don't keep your money in your pocket waiting for me.'"

snip

...there is no stealth campaign. Despite what you may have read, there are no shadowy meetings in which Gore and his operatives plot his path to power. There is no secret plan. There's only a vigorous draft-Gore movement that he has nothing to do with...

snip

And if no declared candidate steps up to lead on this issue, many of them believe he will have a "moral obligation"—you hear the phrase over and over—to jump in. "I understand that position and I respect it, but I'm not convinced things will evolve that way," says Gore. "If I do my job right, all the candidates will be talking about the climate crisis. And I'm not convinced the presidency is the highest and best role I could play. The path I see is a path that builds a consensus—to the point where it doesn't matter as much who's running. It would take a lot to disabuse me of the notion that my highest and best use is to keep building that consensus."

His wife is more blunt. "He's got access to every leader in every country, the business community, people of every political stripe," says Tipper. "He can do this his way, all over the world, for as long as he wants. That's freedom. Why would anyone give that up?"

:tinfoilhat:

After seeing about 2 million Run Al Gore Run topics with about 5 million I'll Vote For U responses each, I figure it's time for another sober look at what the man, his wife, and those close to him are actually saying. No need to thank me. :)

10. Why?
So you can break my heart?

I don't see a candidate out there now worth a damn. On either side.

19. Because he left the race when it was evident that Kerry was
going to get the nomination and when it was evident the media was never going to mention him to help him fundraise and pay his staff?

It broke my heart in 2004 that he won Oklahoma and all we heard about was Edwards coming in second. It broke my heart that he bested Edwards in five of the nine races in which they both competed and we never heard about it. It broke my heart when the media went WEEKS, literally, without even mentioning his name - oh they mentioned Kucinich and Sharpton, but not Clark. Odd. It breaks my heart now when they don't mention him, even though he packs the houses at every dinner in which he's to be the keynote speaker. It breaks my heart that he thumps the other named candidates on issues of foreign policy and national security and he's not mentioned.

So, the only thing I'm setting my self up for is to NOT hear about him from our media, once again. That's all.

3. In Dec. 2002 he said "I won't run in 2004".
The fact that he has not yet made such a similar Shermanesque statement means to me that a presidential run is still possible.

I'm not holding my breath waiting for him to jump in, but if he did run, I would forget about all the other candidates and support him, and I think many others would too.

In the end, we can agree that it's his decision. Whatever he feels is best for himself, his family and the country.

9. You are attaching your own meaning to the lack of a "Shermanesque statement"...yet...
the person interviewing him provides at least a partial answer:

"Gore knows it's in his interest to keep the door ajar. It builds curiosity. "

It is serving his main cause, is it not?

21. Not really....even Tipper left the door open, in the article...
So you are attaching your own meaning to her statement.

I really think certain people just don't want him to run, even though he'd make a far better president than any of the candidates running now.

This poster has a habit of posting this same song different verse about Gore running.
They have some vested interest in him NOT running.
I wonder what it is.:eyes:

25. You're paranoid.
Implying that posters have clandestine agendas is thin ice. My agenda is open and pure - fight global warming. But it's not hard to see what your implication is.
You have spent time in this thread lying about me "harassing" and "attacking" Elizabeth Edwards, and not wanting Edwards to run. All lies. Now you say I have a "vested interest" in Gore not running. Another lie.

If Gore announced I'd be the first to offer him support.

So, while you're "wondering what" my secret agenda is, consider also that your perception of things might be a little off base.

and your agenda is c-r-y-s-t-a-l clear.
MANY of your posts are devoted to attempting to keep people from supporting Al Gore.
People should judge this one for themselves and not take your word-or mine about it.
My perception is just fine, but thanks for your "perpetual concern".

And lose the veiled threats...they are kind of silly.

4. Not necessarily
"It happens all the time," says Tipper Gore. "Everybody wants to take him for a walk in the woods. He won't go. He's not doing it!" But even Tipper—so happy and relieved to see her husband freed up after 30 years in politics—knows better than to say never: "If the feeling came over him and he had to do it, of course I'd be with him."

As always, they leave a loophole in there.

11. Maybe he will run because his sense of duty to his nation
outweighs his need for freedom - and what an advantage to have a leader of our nation that has "access to every leader in every country, the business community, people of every political stripe" -

Gore in 2008 is worth the wait!

that the USofA is a danger to the rest of the world. As it is being governed today, it is a threat to the rest of the world. If the USofA does nothing regarding global warming, if it continues to conduct preemptive wars and if it continues to misuse and abuse the resources of the nation(s) it invades and occupies, nothing the rest of the world does will make a difference.

We have become the greedy evil that threatens the survival of the rest of the planet.

13. Just curious if you ever got a response from Elizabeth Edwards about her lightbulbs?
You don't want Gore--You don't want Edwards.
I think that Tipper's response is coy at best.
He hasn't announced. Why the hell would she announce for him? What are they supposed to say when people keep asking questions that they don't want to answer yet?
I think you want him NOT to run so bad that you are reading tea leaves now.
Gore said IF he ran, he would announce in the Fall. I will wait until the Fall.
Excuse me for not taking the opinion of someone who harassed a woman who has cancer about her fucking lightbulbs.

15. Oops! Looks like you forgot something...
But even Tipper—so happy and relieved to see her husband freed up after 30 years in politics—knows better than to say never: "If the feeling came over him and he had to do it, of course I'd be with him."

Then there is the NY Times article:

When I asked Gore why he hasn’t dismissed all the speculation by issuing a Shermanesque refusal to stand, as he did in 2002, Gore said, "Having spent 30 years as part of the political dialogue, I don’t know why a 600-day campaign is taken as a given, and why people who aren’t in it 600 days out for the convenience of whatever brokers want to close the door and narrow the field and say, ‘This is it, now let’s place your bets’ — If they want to do that, fine. I don’t have to play that game."

Time will tell. Guess we'll have to just wait and see.

B-)

I'm only trying to throw a little cold water on the "He's running he's running!!!!" croud that is posting multiple topics here everyday. I realize he's left the door open, and there's nothing wrong with him doing that no matter what he decides. It cannot be disputed though that his words lean much more towards not running.

26. As a "foreigner", I'd be glad to see Al sit this one out
Al Gore is an official citizen of the world for the good work he's done.

He's respected worldwide by those who recognize change is necessary and reviled by the few who stand to lose some money.

I'd say he's on par with Mother Theresa, Bishop Tutu, JFK, FDR and the Dalai Lama.

And, no disrespect intended, but I think it would be shame to drag him into the muck that is American politics today. He'd be constantly distracted by petty politics, false charges and vicious smears, aided and abetted by a GOP-friendly American media. Look at what happened in 1999. It was a high-tech, modern-day political lynching. And look who America ended up with.

His one true calling is to educate and inspire the world to do something about our wasteful and unsustainable lifestyles. And it looks like the world is paying attention.

I'd hate to lose his voice and his guidance at this critical time.

Somewhere else in the article?
Because in the section you posted, she didn't say that.
She asked why would anyone give that up.
None of those things are an outright denial; or a Shermanesqe statement, which he has said he WILL NOT make.
Why would he SPECIFICALLY say that he was NOT going to make a Shermanesqe statement; and then allow his WIFE to do so?? That makes no sense. Neither of them are that politically inept.

Door's still open, right?

And I am still blonde blonde blonde.:silly:

Edited on Thu May-17-07 08:33 PM by AndyTiedye
But I just don't see any way that Hillary Clinton or Barak Obama or John Edwards is going to be President.
If we nominate any of them, we're not gonna win.

Perhaps our eagerness for Al Gore to run is a measure of our desperation. WE HAVE TO WIN THIS TIME!
Our country cannot stand 4 more years of Repiglican rule -- 4 more years of war -- 4 more years of galloping theocracy -- 4 more years or ruinous deficits -- 4 more years of Repiglicans robbing us blind…
