TSA in Philly searches woman's wallet, employs Full Metal Jacket 'Get Some' tactics
by Chris in Paris on 9/13/2010 03:04:00 PM

It hardly sounds like she was a threat in the air so why were they picking through her wallet and inspecting receipts and checks? How does that represent a threat to other passengers? What exactly is the mission statement of the TSA? The terrorists have clearly won.

............................

In a side pocket she had tucked a deposit slip and seven checks made out to her and her husband, worth about $8,000.

Her thought: "Oh, my God, this is none of his business."

Two Philadelphia police officers joined at least four TSA officers who had gathered around her. After conferring with the TSA screeners, one of the Philadelphia officers told her he was there because her checks were numbered sequentially, which she says they were not.

"It's an indication you've embezzled these checks," she says the police officer told her. He also told her she appeared nervous. She hadn't before that moment, she says.

2. I agree that Philadelphia is one of the worst airports in America. Arriving from Italy, we had
over two hours before our domestic flight and thought we could get some dinner. That's before we knew that once you made it through customs and claimed your bags you then had to merge into lines awaiting going through TSA 'security'. I was brave enough to ask what was the point. We had deplaned in a secure part of the airport, gone through customs, and walked down halls that had no access to the 'outside', so why did we need to go through security again? I was told it was because customs wasn't located in the same building. We had about 20 minutes to get to the gate before boarding. Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!

3. Just one of numerous junior-inspired encroachments on freedom, liberty, common sense, reason,
sanity, cost-effectiveness, and sound business practice that I had though would be gone with the wind as junior left office: what an unmitigated dumb-ass to have been so childishly naive as to have rationalized a return to American-styled liberty and values: silly me. ;)

4. It gets worse:
"When she got home, her husband of 20 years, John Parker, a self-employed plastics broker, said the police had called and told him that they'd suspected "a divorce situation" and that Kathy Parker was trying to empty their bank account. He set them straight."

TSA called the local police who called the husband, about " a divorce situation"???????????

I truly do not understand why people bother to fly.

5. I haven't been on a plane since 1979
and have no plans to break that streak anytime soon.

Sounds like air travel is nothing but aggravation and add-on fees.

If I suddenly get the urge to be abused, I can always go back to my ex-husband.

8. sadly what happened to that woman regarding the checks does happen
without going into too much detail, I was in the middle of a very tenuous marital situation. a dear friend/attorney advised me to open bank accounts and start to be prepared for the worst. however, as upset as i was, she warned me to be very careful about how to transfer funds and how to open the account as she told me that many banks will rat out women to their husband if they suspect a woman trying to set up accounts on the sly.

now i know that some people (men and women) may do so to be vindictive, however in my case it was to protect myself and my children. so i had to pretend to be setting up christmas and vacation accounts because of how many questions i was asked and I made deposits in only cash, so if you are in a bad situation, don't use checks with your spouse's name on them to set up a new account elsewhere, because someone could call them. (note, i am not advocating people draining and ruining a spouse but if you are in a bad situation you do have to protect yourself, many a man or woman has been caught off guard when their spouse goes off the deep end)

my friend told me that women are suspect in these types of situations and that they will get "ratted out" as she had been during her first divorce. i am not sure if this is true but i know in my particular circumstance the bank employee who helped me set up accounts kept double checking my story about my reasoning for setting up the accounts, it seemed so odd.

7. And the cargo under your feet is virtually uninspected!
They do complete body searches and have the power to do full cavity searches too, but everything in the cargo area us virtually left uninspected. So while you are denied having a bottle of water there could be a 500 pound bomb right under your feet. Security at airports is 100% illusion.

Thanks to Bush we have a police state.
