Ha Ha--Degenerate gambler Bill Bennett thinks that the show Weeds is damaging to society
Edited on Fri Sep-24-10 03:47 PM by trumad
Well damn Bill--- maybe you shouldn't have watched The Cincinnati Kid as a young man---or Casino Royale, or maybe it was the great movie The Sting that got you hooked.

Bill Bennett---you're a fucking Douchebag.

Here's his latest horseshit...

As for the popular culture, the message has been even more damaging. Where once television shows actively promoted the dangers of drug use, several of our more popular shows, from “Weeds” to “Entourage” to “Mad Men,” make drug use a laugh line.

Back when our country was making a serious assault on drug abuse, a show like “Weeds” would never be aired. Today it is promoted in full page ads in our nation’s most popular magazines. This, for a comedy about the life and times of a marijuana-growing and -dealing family. As the head of the network that produces and airs “Weeds” put it, “Our ratings were va-va-va-voom! Who said hedonism is passé?” This, for a show where one is lured to root for a family responsible for the death of a DEA agent, children dropping out of school, gang violence and rape.

5. Didn't Dexter kill a corrupt politician in one season?
But that's only TV. It's not the real world.

I don't really care what he thinks about anything, but it might be entertaining to hear him talk about it.

6. What the hell is Bennett smoking now?
And what time period is he talking about "when our country was making a serious assault on drug abuse"? Are we going all the way back to "Reefer Madness" days?

The more pertinent question, I suppose, is why this half wit is given space at CNN to spew this nonsense.

13. Thanks. Bennett wasn't even gambling down on the casino floor...
but rather had machines brought up to his room. And he proceeded to lose millions in a glassy-eyed, masturbatory way.
How fucked up is that? He really is the most degenerate of all degenerate gamblers.

14. He's sympathetic to the dead DEA agent from "Weeds"?.
Clearly he's wagging the finger of judgement without ever having bothered to watch the show.

17. Weeds is just
not anywhere near as good as Breaking Bad.

...a show about a high school teacher who turned to making meth because his insurance was so shitty, his pay was so low and his former associates so greedy that he had to turn into someone like...Donald Rumsfeld in order to take care of his son with CP and his baby daughter.

Yeah, Donald Rumsfeld is a moral cesspool - agreed.

21. I like Weeds better
It's funnier. Breaking Bad is too intense for my taste. Good show, but I prefer Weeds for the humor.

27. To each his or her own
I liked Weeds when it first came out because it was a great social satire - but it lost me, somewhere along the way - the humor hasn't been as funny and the drama has been out-of-sync with its original satirical bent (this is, of course, just my opinion.)

Breaking Bad, on the other hand - the acting just devastates me. The humor seems much more organic (and darker and not as broad.) The DEA brother-in-law - Hank - oh, what a great character. So multi-layered...not to mention, of course, both Jesse and Walter.

I can understand why someone might think it's too intense, tho. There are real and nasty consequences for Walter choosing to do something so harmful and destructive. The cinematography contributes to that squeeeege- also spectacularly well done, to me.

This and The Wire are my favorite shows. Obviously I'm all about light-hearted stories... :)

22. Bill Bill Bill, why don't you go back to your S&M dominatrix and one eyed bandits?
People don't care what you think anymore...you fell out of grace long ago with any thinking creature. NT, now go gamble your mommy's purse money away and have your female superior crush your balls with her pumps...hypocritical asswipe.

26. now that does it!! Weed is one of the best shows on T.V.!!
Edited on Sat Sep-25-10 12:03 PM by Douglas Carpenter
And frankly, the show demonstrates how a widow trying to support her family tried to make a go of just growing and dealing marijuana and in and ends up in a never ending serious of troubles and headaches. I don't see how it glorifies the world of drug dealing at all. If anything it would tend to discourage it.
