My husband's grandmother voted straight Republican yesterday
She is a 93 year old life long Democrat who voted Republican for the first time because there will be no COLA increase in her social security next year. Just goes to show how people tend to vote their interests.

When her social security is gone altogether who's she gonna blame?

5. Yeah, that makes sense since the Republicans would like nothing more than to end all of Social
Security.

6. The question is, what do some people see as their interest?
to many, it is more important for them to get to heaven than to help anyone here on earth. So they vote against gays and against separation of church and state etc.
Perhaps if Grandma would have thought about it she would have realized that there is much more danger in electing Repubs who want to do away with SS

12. I think they see their interest as immediate...

especially at that age. I think the Dems would be very smart to push the repubs on social security issues in the next term. Make them take a stand on the issue and when they show their true colors, the blue hairs will walk away from them in the next election. They want their check..plain and simple.

10. Since the President & Dem Congress, along with Dems in her state, didn't control her COLA increase
because it is based on an economic formula that was an irrational vote but it has been clear for a long time that people's votes are often irrational. Chalk that up to Bush leading the economy off the cliff and us still dealing with the aftereffects.
