Poll question: Just a simple idea. Are you in?
Let's try something different this time, at least for the next two years.

Let's all try to be united and cheerlead our President, congress people and Senators.

No more long screeds about how they betrayed us. Liberals have tried that approach for decades and the result has been Reagan and Bush. Next time it could be Palin or worse.

Let's just try this for two years. If it doesn't work and in 2 years we find out we really were betrayed, then we can go back on the attack.

Are you in?

1. No thanks - too often cheerleaders just block the view of the game...
And seeing clearly what's happening on the field is far too important in this game.

5. Or, we could ...
dress up as Dolly Madison and Benjamin Franklin and hold up misspelled signs that say "We want our HOUSE back!" and "Stop shredding the Constitution, Boehner"!

It seemed to work for the Tea Partiers.

I'm sort of opting for cultivating my own garden.

16. My point is that it is hard to build a replacement party
as an actual 3rd party. Build it to the left of the Dogs, and then take over the existing party (eventually).

24. true. But what the hell are teabaggers?
It's really just the already existing right wing of the Republican party. They've been trying to do the same thing for years, but it took coordination (of some sort) to actually move it.

they don't like the implication that there's a problem with the Democratic Party here. I've had threads locked, trying to discuss solutions here.

So, we're to be loyal to a party that's no longer there, I guess.

ground, even if it stops progress for Repukes, it's no worse than what they've done. And they are getting ALL THE PRAISE for STANDING up to Big Government or something!! Actually, they will try to screw us every which way to Sunday, and wake up Monday morning and get out the LONG KNIVES!

I've had it with the namby-pamby crap. When you were growing up and the bully started to push you around, did you run away with your tail between your legs, or did you learn to STAND UP FOR YOURSELF??

Bullies almost ALWAYS remain bullies, but those they bully can change and make them move on to another target. Or another situation they can BULLY!

JMHO!

18. No, and please don't ever ask that again.
I was an advocate of "save it until after the election" for the past two months, but now is the time to discuss in details all the huge mistakes the president and congressional Democrats made. They mainly made the mistake of being too timid, too accommodating, and too quick to abandon key parts of our program.

23. It's time to ask the Party if THEY'RE in
Edited on Wed Nov-03-10 02:36 PM by kenny blankenship
Because they spent the last two years acting like all they want is for everything to go back to just the way it was in 2007 - when the way it was in 2007 caused the Great Meltdown of 2008. The way it was in 2007 was already horrible for Democratic constituencies. I voted Democratic this time, but it's the LAST time if they don't drop their Pre-financial-9/11 mindset. And I'm not waiting two years. Nostalgia for the way things were pre-Crash is nowhere near good enough.

32. The majority of progressives, as demonstrated on these boards...
are the Pollyanna left of the Party. The central core(not the right)of the party is LIBERAL. The Party platform is LIBERAL.

The far left of the party consists of almost individual single issue causes.

We must return to the core of the party and become the LIBERALS that we once were.

Argue the point? Fine. But Pollyanna hasn't done much for any of us has it.

Now, we will need to redesign DU for this. Some of the forums can simply be renamed:

General Cheers and Accolades

General Cheers and Accolades: Presidential

Instead of "The Lounge," how about "The Audience"? Then we can all sit and applaud!

The topic forums will need to be redone also. In order to reduce division, we will need topics that everyone can agree on and enjoy. We could have a lot of different forums about things we enjoy about President Obama and the Congress. Maybe a forum for their clothes and another for the pretty state flags. People might disagree about those things, though. It would probably be easiest to consolidate them all into one big forum about kittens.

Of course, more mods will have to be hired to remove any post that is not about cheerleading or kittens.

This is a great idea! :headbang: :fistbump:

The problem isn't that the citizenry didn't cheerlead enough. The problem is we weren't given enough to cheer about.

Dissent is Patriotic. Was true 8 years ago, 4 years ago, and today.

I'm with Cenk. Republicans do what they do - they're scorpions. I have expectations of democrats that have not been met. The "more compromise" lesson that they've drawn from this election proves that they haven't gotten their asses kicked enough.

Primaries, primaries, primaries.
