Hispanic vote may have put Reid over the top

The Washington Post is reporting that Harry Reid would not have won his bid for the Senate had it not been for the Hispanic vote. The report says Latinos made up about 12 percent of the midterm vote with 90 percent of that vote going to Reid. The post goes as far as to say Hispanics were the key to Reid’s victory.

Jose Diaz-Balart reports for Telemundo. He tells us immigration clinched it for Latino voters. “There is fear in many of the Hispanic communities in this country because immigration reform has not been something that either the Democrats or the Republicans have been willing to tackle seriously.”

Back in August, Reid acknowledged the Hispanic vote. He even told us he couldn’t see how a Hispanic person could vote for a Republican.

“I don’t know how anyone of Hispanic heritage could be a Republican. Do I need to say more?”

“People have ridiculed me, made fun of me,” Reid told News 3 Wednesday. “Why are you wasting your time with a group that doesn’t register and if they’re registered, they don’t vote ? Well, we proved that wrong in 2008 and we certainly proved it wrong last night.”

Moving forward, Reid promises immigration reform will be at the top of his list.
