NPR: Tea Party Lady wants her road fixed

In a hurry to get to work but did anybody hear the Toby lady from the Waco Tea Party on Morning Edition say one of the things she wants is to get the interstate near her fixed. Then both she and the other tea party guy identified road building.

Then when the reporter gently mentioned that the stimulus they had been condemning went to road repair and that "signs were everywhere" the other guy seemed to insinuate that they had just put the signs up and hadn't fixed the roads???

OK so at least around here really the only thing you can see from the stimulus IS repaired roads and road crew jobs. I can give the one lady that maybe her road isn't fixed, but the other guy that said they just put up the signs but don't do repair is deliberately ignoring the facts.

When I get home this evening maybe I'll try to post the transcript but it was fairly amazing.

1. They *do* put up the signs for a few months before the work starts, sometimes.
But so far, everywhere there has been signs, the actual work eventually follows.

Except, apparently, on the New Jersey / New York railway tunnel, which Joisey's Repuke governor canceled.

4. Did someone suggest she not depend on the gov't for that?
Maybe some of her bagger friends will come over with some elephant shit to fill the holes in. :eyes:

5. It's not too surprising, considering the Tea Party propaganda floating around this season
Even hear any of them complaining about how Obama raised their taxes? Not in the future tense; many of them believe that he has already raised their taxes. Why? Fox news, Rush Limbaugh, Beck's radio program, and all the rest repeat this lie endlessly. They don't even bother to compare past tax records; they just "know" it to be true. Perception is every individual's reality.

The idea that the stimulus has done anything but throw money into a black hole doesn't jive with their beliefs. Thus, when presented with a clear piece of contradicting evidence, the guy you heard on the radio defended his beliefs with that silly comment about only seeing road work signs and no actual work. Even if he has seen road workers, his mind has blocked them out of the equation. It does not fit his narrative, and threatens his "reality".

6. Teabaggers = people who are too stupid to read their own paychecks.
It would be funny if it weren't so damn pathetic and sad.

This is why the GOP doesn't really want to improve our education system. Idiots incapable of basic math (or reasoning) are their core constituency.

white-folks-only glasses. :eyes:

10. Christ on a crutch. One of the running jokes around here is that you can tell
it's an election year when someone starts fixing the potholes. What planet is she living on?

11. Too bad the new Health Care Bill didn't categorize "Tea Party" as a mental illness so we could
give all these people electroshock therapy.

Sorry if that was too mean, but these people really are just idiots.

15. I heard that interview.
The lady had a valid complaint, if true. But the man saying that there were only signs has to be a lie. Joe Biden's task is follow up on all the stimulus funds. I can't believe there isn't any work associated with the signs if the money was awarded.

20. They've joined a libertarian movement, so I suggest they buy some asphalt and shovels...
(at competitive market prices, of course) and get to work repairing it themselves.

21. She does NOT want the road repaired - she wants that money returned to the American Taxpayer!
Immediately!

And she and her neighbors will roll up their sleeves, magically come up with a ton of money and an assload of heavy machinery, and do it themselves!

It's her American way!

Step One: Obtain underpants
Step Two: ???
Step Three: Profit

22. I live in a rural county south of San Antonio
Within a few months after the stimulus passed, my street went from sand to paved as did every street in my area along with refurbished road signs on the state highway that leads to the neighborhoods. My larger tax refund thanks to "Making Work Pay" allowed me to buy a better car for my long commute to the city. It would take Jedi mind tricks to make me believe the "failed stimulus" mantra from the right. "Failed stimulus" is the new "death tax", just keep saying it and people will believe it.

The next mind trick will be, "extending tax cuts for the rich leads to jobs", despite eight years of evidence to the contrary.
