McConnell: Defeating Pres. Obama 'Top Priority' for Party
Edited on Fri Nov-05-10 01:25 PM by bigtree
November 04, 2010

The Kentucky senator says limiting the president to a single term falls in line with Republicans' plans for rejecting healthcare reforms, ending bailouts and reducing government's size and spending.

Reporting from Washington — Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky doubled-down on his assessment that the GOP's top priority is making Barack Obama a one-term president.

"Over the past week, some have said it was indelicate of me to suggest that our top political priority over the next two years should be to deny President Obama a second term in office," McConnell said during a speech Thursday at the conservative Heritage Foundation.

"But the fact is, if our primary legislative goals are to repeal and replace the health spending bill, to end the bailouts, cut spending and shrink the size and scope of government," he said, "the only way to do all these things is to put someone in the White House who won't veto any of these things."

___ The Kentucky senator promised repeated votes on repealing Obama's signature legislative accomplishment, the healthcare law. But shy of sending the president a bill he would surely veto, McConnell said Senate Republicans will work to deny the administration funds needed to implement the law.

4. he's the new Senate majority leader
This is one of the men republican voters expect to solve their problems. He's apparently more concerned with politics than he is with actually working to solve voter's problems. That should be highlighted whenever he raises his head to speak.

7. Er, Repubs won the House, not the Senate.
McConnell is riding the BOH-ner bandwagon, but still remains an insignificant fleeb.

10. Scaring me this afternoon . . .
. . :scared: . . . what a revoltin' development that would be.

We CANNOT let this happen. GOTV for 2012 has to begin now. Losing the senate to turds like McChinless will lead to nothing but torching of rights and progress.

6. DU Member TheKentukian explained this very well...
...the Republicans don't care if they get the House, even the Senate. They covet the White House.

The Presidency allows them to gut regulation, target law enforcement, install activist judges, use the military on a whim and sign "presidential findings" to circumvent any law they want.

9. Indeed.
And since Mitch doesn't even have the pull to get his choice for Senate candidate on the ballot in his home state, Mitch has no idea what kind of loon could end up in the White House should he succeed in getting rid of Obama.

Unpredictable and potentially dangerous times indeed...
