First, make certain words seem very reprehensible (i.e., conspiracy), then when the time comes when no other word is more appropriate, people will either be afraid to call it like it is or dismiss the word & fail to see it for what it is.

I think people are afraid to even think about it, but it is exactly what we have to preserve. Without open internet only the elite rich will afford access, while the misinformation machine will work toward taking a bigger bite out of the populace.

I think the internet would become less open incrementally, by degrees, as seamlessly as possible, to avoid public outrage. I wonder if the process is underway already. If it was done all at once, people would be in the streets, IMHO.
