Iowa Sec. of State's (Democrat) house burglarized on election night
I just wanted to post this little story that got lost in the shuffle of everything that happened this week. Michael Mauro was a FANTASTIC Sec. of State for Iowa, who was instrumental in removing touch-screen voting machines in many precincts throughout the state, and adopted a standard of optically-scanned paper ballots everywhere in Iowa.

He was actually defeated on Election Day, and then had to deal with this. His reputation is so squeaky-clean that the incoming Repuke governor asked him to consider a job in his administration.

I'll bet every cent to my name that tea-bagging scum are responsible for this crime. Come on - election night, and they just HAPPENED to stumble upon the house of one of the major statewide candidates?

"The home of Secretary of State Michael Mauro was the scene of a police burglary investigation on Wednesday.

Officers were called to the home in the 4300 block of Southwest 31st Street shortly before 2 p.m.

Officers said Mauro came home to find the front door had been forced open. An officer walked through the house with Mauro and took notes on items that had been stolen.

A laptop computer was missing from a front closet. A comforter and pillows were stolen from the master bedroom.

Most of the house was ransacked."

1. I love Mike Mauro. Was shocked when I saw he lost to a real teapartier.
He really cleaned up the process in Iowa.

3. I've had the chance to meet Michael Mauro on 2 occasions -
he struck me as totally genuine, without the slightest trace of slickness or phoniness that you often see in politicians regardless of political stripe.

Aside from the non-retention of the SC judges, this was the thing that made me the most heart-sick about the Iowa results.

4. The first time I met him (at a county central committee mtg) he seemed like a caricature
of a mafia don. Grey sports coat, black button down shirt and a white tie. I think he wore jeans also. But when he spoke you could tell he was the real deal.
Met him a couple other times and he actually remembered me. I complimented him on the same day registration almost a year after it was first used and he said mine was the first comment he had heard on it.

5. Hmm, I wonder if he made a conscious decision to change his "look"
at some point. He certainly appeared very "non-flashy" when I saw him; not sloppy in the least bit, but not making any real effort to stand out in the crowd.

2. A laptop computer was missing from a front closet,
and a number of other innocuous items were also taken to cover the purpose of the burglary.
