John McCain wants another study on DADT repeal
I agree entirely with the last sentence. John McCain wants to not just keep DADT in place, but bring back the ban itself. Purging gay and lesbian servicemembers from our armed services, period. If a vote on DADT repeal happens in the lame duck Congress, I hope some Republicans can be persuaded to vote for it. Because if it's not happening this year, it may never happen.

John McCain discussed "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" on Meet the Press, and seems to be unhappy that the results of the Pentagon's DADT study were leaked, cause now he's saying he won't listen to those results:

"I will listen to our military leaders, and not a study that is leaked."

McCain also criticizes the study itself, and says it took the wrong approach:

"All four service chiefs are saying we need a thorough and complete study of the effects, not how to implement the repeal, but the effects on morale and battle effectiveness. That's what I want, and once we get this study, we need to have hearings and we need to examine it and look at whether it's the kind of study that we wanted. It isn't in my view."

I have to believe that McCain was apprised of the questions in the study before it went out, but now that it's not going his way all of a sudden the study is bad.

It appears McCain won't be happy until he has a study that categorically keeps gays out of the military.

14. He also likely has to know that
Edited on Sun Nov-14-10 09:17 PM by karynnj
He was in the Navy for a long time before he was a POW - and it would seem incredible if he was completely unaware of that.

IMHO, this is all for the base - the homophobic tea party base - that will hate him regardless. What surprises me is that he once had the respect and friendship of so many Democrats and liberal leaning media people and was thought to be a "maverick". Never was anyone - other than perhaps GWB - given so much benefit of the doubt - even as the doubt became minuscule. It is hard for me to figure why this was the case for a man who clearly was a jerk to women and was caught in Financial shenanigans. What makes this harder to understand is that had Gore or Kerry, both far nicer and honest men, gotten even a tenth the friendly press McCain did - they would be President.

8. McCain is nothing more than an empty headed, corporate shill. He needs to sit down and have
Cindy ( no better ) brew him up a piping hot cup of STFU. That will bring quick relief to his nasty, crusty, hate-filled self.

3. This is one of the reasons the study was idiotic to begin with
They've just handed the anti-repeal forces a weapon of mass obstruction.

7. Yep.
Now, when the study does come out (alledgedly 12/1), there will be an instant dismissal of it, because the wrong questions were asked.

The anti-repeal forces are now driving this. If you've got hope, let me know, ruggerson, because it's getting worse and worse.

12. How many "studies" have there been already?
It took me about a minute the other day to find one from the Clinton era done out of Rand that said approximately the same thing. Made me wonder how many of these things have already been done.

If they had studies that found something else, the Republicans would be reading them from the well.

15. There have been 22 official studies - each one came to the same conclusion
Now if only we could study why McCain is a homophobe and a bigot

4. Someone needs to study the disintegration of McCain's honor.
Now THAT would be useful. Maybe we could prevent others from becoming so pathetic.

17. The question is whether he ever had an unusual amount of honor
Edited on Sun Nov-14-10 09:30 PM by karynnj
The only thing I ever read that showed any honor was that he refused to come home before others due to his dad's prominence. The fact though is that he could not have had any idea he would be there for 5 years. In 1968, both parties ha ending the war in their platform. In addition, he likely feared being seen as dishonorable had he come home because he used his dad's position to get back immediately - exploited by North Vietnam.

His treatment of his first wife was bad enough that many republicans drawn to him as a war hero disliked him.

Early in his Senate career, he took goodies and was a member of the Keating 5.

In 2004, as one of the Republicans who knew exactly how dishonest the SBVT were, he told Kerry to remove an ad that used McCain's characterization of them and alluded to Bush attacks on McCain.

I suspect that honor was something that was drilled into McCain - and he saw it as loyalty to his "team" - the Navy, at one point - the Republican party - now. I don't think he had a broader view of honor based on morality. Thus, I don't think a young McCain would ever have questioned what we were doing in Vietnam - and Senator McCain now seems unwilling to question what his ever more extreme party stands for. To him "honor" may mean blindly following.

19. McCain has turned into Romney ( a pandering idiot) with a vendetta against
Obama for beating him and making him look like a complete moran when the market tanked. His maneuver of halting his campaign backfired and Obama made the statement "that as President
you have to be able to handle many crisis at once". I think he hates Obama for that and more.

You look like an idiot McCain and now everyone knows you intimidate and abuse your poor wife.
