Why should they "get a spine"?
From the President through the ranks of the Democrats in Congress...loaded with millionaires and multimillionaires.

As if they even remotely feel what we do.

3. It's not a laugh of joy

Much sarcasm in the title also.

2. Because it's the right thing to do
Nothing funny about it at all. The measure of a person is not how much money they have but how much service they offer to the world. Ghandi could have been and might well have been affluent. The Dalai Lama, same. Nelson Mandela is likely well off now though the decades he spent in prison were likely times of need. I won't deny that it's a problem that our supposed representative government is representing us but I don't think it's all about money.

Because it's the right thing to do. That is more important than all the gold in the world. And those who would help others are the best people on earth, no matter what their pocket books say.

4. Because there are politicians who don't always operate only in self-interest
LBJ launched the "war on poverty" despite never experiencing poverty himself. FDR, the president who has done the most to reduce poverty in the US, was an extremely wealthy man from an extremely wealthy family.

Smart, sane people are capable of empathy. They can understand what someone else is going through without experiencing. Republicans, on the other hand, are not smart nor sane.
