NJ Supreme Court rejects Tea Party effort to recall Menendez
http://blog.nj.com/njv_editorial_page/2010/11/recall_menendez_effort_slapped.html

The Sussex County Tea Party tried to launch a recall of Sen. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) for carrying out the duties of his office in a way that offended tea party sensibilities: the Democratic senator supports cap and trade, health care and immigration reforms.

Yesterday, the state Supreme Court struck a blow for reason, rejecting the recall effort as unconstitutional, a reversal of an appellate court decision.

At issue were conflicting readings of the U.S. and state constitutions regarding recalls. The court’s 4-2 vote settled it. Chief Justice Stuart Rabner wrote for the majority: "The text and history of the federal Constitution, as well as the principles of the democratic system it created, do not allow the states the power to recall U.S. senators."

The facts, as laid out by Rabner, may not carry much weight for RoseAnne Salanitri, founder of the Sussex County Tea Party, whose hold on facts and history are tenuous at best: She also believes that dinosaurs and man once trod the earth at the same time. Salanitri vowed to take the case to the U.S. Supreme Court.

1. Suck it up, 'baggers
Good for the NJ Supreme Court for not allowing the teabaggers to run roughshod over the rest of the state.

2. Eventually, the radical, right-wing activist Supreme Court
will rule against the Constitution and in favor of the teabaggers. Count on it. Soon, teabaggers will be able to have anyone they don't like killed.

5. Yeah, I don't think there's any limit on how RW the right-wing activist Supreme Court
will go given the chance.

3. My favorite part: "Salanitri...whose hold on facts and history are tenuous at best: She also
believes that dinosaurs and man once trod the earth at the same time."

Ah yes, not just your average teabagger, but a Bible thumpin, "GAWD-DUH said it, I believe it!" Teabagger.

My favorite version of the dinosaur-man connection is that of Garrison Keillor:

(paraphrasing) "But of course you have to understand that these are the same people who believe that Noah and his family rode to church on a dinosaur."
