Very positive day today economy-wise. Does anyone else have that sick feeling though...

We've heard what the right-wing's agenda is. The Republicans have vowed to return to their failed economic policies while their stated main goal is to bring President Obama down.

So the US economy seems to be shaking itself out of the near economic apocalypse that the last Republican Reign of Terrorism wrought on America. Positive indicators have been creeping further up and this week seem to have accelerated. Now, of course, one data point doesn't establish a trend, but one good data point is sooo much better than negative data point after negative data point.

Does anyone have that sick feeling in their stomach, though, that the Republicans are going to fubar everything once again and that the Democrats are pretty much going to let them do it? The Republicans have shown that they are PERFECTLY happy to hold anything and everything hostage... unemployment, SS, Medicaid, federal appointments, nuclear proliferation treaties etc. I get the feeling that they are gleefully rubbing their hands at the thought of people losing their unemployment and getting tossed out of their houses this Christmas or being unable to provide for their love ones during the Christian season of peace, love and joy. Welcome to the reality of modern Christianism...

The Republicans are invested in the failure of the US. It has been one of their stated goals for decades now. The principle of "starving the beast" in order to "shrink the federal government until it can be drowned in a bathtub." They don't care who they hurt, they don't care how many lives they destroy and they sure as hell don't care about where this country is heading. Their ideal would be for the federal government to fall apart and a number of states secede so that they can set up their little militant theocratic states with active programs to purge minorities, homosexuals and non-Christians. Yeah, I know, this sounds extreme but if you "talk" to these people on the internet (particularly via forums open to all political persuasions), then you know that there is a core of right-wingers who would love nothing more than to see that little wetdream of theirs' come to fruition.

So, yeah. I hear the Republicans and I think that if the Democrats fold, we are in for long-term pain. This is why we must stick to principles. We cannot negotiate with terrorists and we cannot allow them to hold all the cards while they play them at their leisure.

1. I will never fathom the people who think that Democrats are the enemy.
At their worst, Democrats are foolish and weak-kneed. At their worst, Republicans are a threat to all life on Earth.

2. This mess isn't over by a long shot
Rethugs or not, we're staring down a very difficult path, made worse by the fact that people want to pretend it doesn't exist.

3. Think of the absolute worst things people and governments have done in history
People in other countries are not worse than we are. We're rapidly proving that our government and that a sizable portion of the American people are be just as bad as the worst out there.

4. This is the eye of the storm.

The worst is yet to come. And after that, another storm is already on it's way from the East (Think China's debt bubble).

When you say the US economy seems to be shaking itself out, the operative word here is seems. It's an illusion, so prepare to be disillusioned.
