Prince Chunk, a fat cat, dies in New Jersey
Obesity is a disease that affects both humans and animals. Animals suffer from the same health risks such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes and more.
Prince Chunk became famous in August of 2008 and became a media sensation when a New Jersey Animal shelter took him in after being deserted by his owner after a foreclosure. He appeared on Good Morning America and Live with Regis and Kelly. He even made the cover of People magazine. Over 500 people came forward and offered to adopt this fat cat.
Vince Damiani finally adopted Prince Chunk in 2008. Prince Chunk’s weight had been declared at 44 lbs, but Damiani stated that he weighed 22 pounds when he brought Prince Chunk home. The average cat weighs between 7 and 11 pounds full grown. Prince Chunk weighed more than double the norm! Ultimately, his weight is what caused his demise and on Saturday, November 27th, 2010, he passed away in his sleep of heart disease.
Prince Chunk’s legacy lives on. His owners created the Prince Chunk Foundation, a nonprofit organization which helps pet owners keep their animals during times of financial distress.
