15. Well
Health Insurance reform passed by the narrowest of margins.

DADT is on track for repeal.

Bushco was never going to be held responsible no matter who was elected President.

Afganistan escalation was a campaign promise.

and on and on and on...

81. WHAT health insurance reform?
The companies responsible for making a mess of health insurance in America are not only still in charge of the whole process - in 2014, it will be illegal not to purchase coverage from them.

This is not the sort of change Ginny and I worked for, let alone voted for.

23. And universal health care wasn't a "biggie" .... ?
You do realize that Obama made back room deals with Big Pharma to ensure that

Medicare could not negotiate on drug prices --

and that he made a similar deal with private HC industry to keep single payer

"off the table" -- ???

Rahm "crowing" about preserving "private health care industry" ... business s/b grateful!

August 12, 2010

In a Thursday interview, White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel argued that rather than recoiling against Obama, business leaders should be grateful for his support on at least a half-dozen counts: his advocacy of greater international trade and education reform open markets despite union skepticism; his rejection of calls from some quarters to nationalize banks during the financial meltdown; the rescue of the automobile industry; the fact that

the overhaul of health care preserved the private delivery system;

the fact that billions in the stimulus package benefited business with lucrative new contracts, and that financial regulation reform will take away the uncertainty that existed with a broken, pre-crash regulatory apparatus.

of the RW, not while our treasury is being sacked by Robber Barons. I have plenty of neighbors who are government workers (at all different levels) and our neighborhood is NOT affluent. In fact, these government workers stabilize a middle class community. If people could just view a government worker as a neighbor, a member of their church, a parent at their kid's school, someone you run into at the supermarket or post office...just ordinary people, just like yourself, then maybe they would see the government employee in another light...

Divided we LOSE!

Even the pension is funded from deductions and under FERS is only one per cent per year.
The health insurance is about average and expensive like everyone elses.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics the Federal employees make 22% less than their counterparts in private industry.
Most of the lower skill jobs are contracted out so were talking Doctors, researchers, judges, attorneys, software engineers, civil engineers, hydrologists, nuclear engineers, veterinarians and a whole lot more.

82. Like I said (and you conveniently missed)...
I support government services, but I don't unconditionally support the bureaucracy. Having worked with government at all levels, I can see quite apparently that there is certainly some largesse there. We should be mindful of those things if for no reason than it puts the rest of the programs we actually care about at risk.

48. Well to be fair, Obama always said he wanted to work with republicans. I could
never understand why he doesn't see that you can't work with these psychopaths. During the primary he and his supporters kept talking about how the Clintons were divisive and that THEY (and not the republicans) were the cause of all the vitriol in the 90's. The argument was that Obama was this new type of "post-partisan" politician who was going to bring everyone together and somehow get republicans to work with him.

I always knew that would never happen, and he was either naive or lying. Now after watching him in action, I think he was just naive. I really wish he would stop trying to work with these psychos and come out with a strong agenda for change. But I just don't think he has it in him. He is not a fighter.

that he wasn't exactly going to be a warrior against the right.

49. I learned decades ago not to put politicians up on a pedestal.
There are campaign promises and then there is reality.

57. "I am so sick of the fucking wimpy ass"
First time I've ever heard this hyperbole.

Seriously, take a review of what the President has accomplished. While you're reviewing it, understand that he's undoubtedly proud of these achievements.

You may not like them, but there are a lot of people who appreciate the progress being made. It's likely very few, if any, of them are Republicans.

59. Nice post
You should do this for a living, you're good.

I don't think Obama is wimpy at all, I think that's giving him too much benefit of the doubt. He's tough and knows what he's doing, it just isn't what he claims he's doing when addressing the public.

He's representing the powerful, so his refusal to challenge that power isn't wimpyness, it's him supporting who he considers to be his real base.

Want to see how un-wimpy he is? Watch him when he deals with the left. You think he gives up the compromise position right away before any haggling takes place, the way he does with the Republicans, like the wimp he supposedly is? Hell no, he gives little or no ground when it comes to the left. He pistol-whips us, then as we wipe our poor and bleeding lips he laughs and tells us to "buck up" or enjoy living under the Bad Cop Republicans. Fucking retards all of us.

It's OK though, pretty soon, maybe in a year, he'll pay attention to the left again. He'll begin to be the man we thought we voted for. He'll throw us a few bones. Until the polls close, then it'll be back to the corporatist he really is.

Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, uh no I don't think so.

Primary and 3rd party, we should pursue both paths, whatever it takes.

66. Here It Is Again Then.
I am so sick of the fucking wimpy ass, roll over and die without trying attitude............

While I appreciate what has been done, it is VERY DISAPPOINTING when you consider what could have been done. What momentum could have been still used if he had only kept EVERYONE in the loop like he did during the campaign.

87. If a boat has 100 holes and you fix only 10 will it stop it from sinking? No...
Yeah, a few things were accomplished. But not one of them required that Obama take a stand, not one. Pelosi is responsible for those achievements, not Obama. On every matter where Obama could have been forceful he failed miserably. DADT, Gitmo, two wars, tax cuts for the rich and on and on, Obama caved. I haven't seen one instance or any shred of evidence that Obama has any courage at all. From everything I've seen he is a coward who has turned his back on the American people. I will never support or vote for him. I don't let anyone betray me twice.

76. Hope is the denial of reality.
And the reality is that both parties are the same corporatist scumbags. The only real difference is on social issues.

84. Until we can buy him at auction we will never be represented. The US is a whoredom...
Our government is a whoredom filled with corporate prostitutes from congress to the White House. They are owned by their corporate masters (pimps) because they are all for sale.

Elections won't matter. The system is rigged, corrupt. Nader was 200,000% right. But no one had the guts to vote for someone with convictions. Nader worked his entire life trying to make life better for all Americans. Obama did nothing for anyone prior to or after the 2008 election. If you want change you can believe in then CHANGE the way you vote. Blindly and mindlessly voting for a republican or democrat will give you the identical results. Both major parties are in collusion with each other. They are all just prostitutes in the same big whorehouse.

But people will continue voting the same way and expecting different results, a definition of insanity.
