US House Republicans kill climate change committee

US President Barack Obama's Republican foes in the House of Representatives said Wednesday they were disbanding the chamber's committee on battling global warming, calling it a waste of money.

Democrats immediately assailed what they branded the "very disappointing" decision to dismantle the Select Committee on Global Warming, which did not have the power to approve legislation.

"We have pledged to save taxpayers' money by reducing waste and duplication in Congress," said a spokesman for Republican House speaker-designate John Boehner, Michael Steel.

The committee "was a clear example, and it will not continue in the 112th Congress," he told AFP by email.

1. My property value just shot up...
currently I'm 35 miles inland. I imagine I should be oceanfront in about 15 years now.

Of course, I could be completely submerged in 20, so my newfound fortune may be short-lived...

7. That's OK ...
... it's all about finding the greater fool. Found one.

Be careful though. Greater fools can be scary as this little guy found out.

8. Funny thing about that
I live where there are numerous glaciers that are melting rapidly but the land mass is actually rising. Even a thousand miles away from the nearest glacier and it is still rising...

10. Houseboats are fairly common on riverbanks here (Iowa).
We'll all need to develop some flexibility in lifestyle -- now if I can only figure out some way to stay near or below ground level during tornadoes.

3. I feel like they're yanking out the rug from under us. We will be standing here
looking bewildered going WTF was that? We're going to be hit so repeatedly and so hard it will all become one big blur.

I am horrified.

4. When I click the link, the headline is "US House Republicans kill climate change committee" ...
I guessed they changed it when they realized an all caps screaming headline that doesn't give any information about the article wasn't the best way to go.

"In terms of looking at recent years, 1998 was the most anomalous - the remaining top 10 warmest years in the series have all occurred since 2000."

congresscritters, particularly Boehner, who accuses the Dems of playing 2012 politics while announcing out of the other side of his mouth that the ONLY thing they are interested in accomplishing during the next two years is preventing President Obama from being re-elected in 2012.

Hypocrites.

Edit to add Boehner's quote:
===================================
"The election was month ago," Boehner said. "We're 23 months from the next election and the political games have already started trying to set up the next election."
===================================

Isn't it funny how they always accuse us of the morally reprehensible things they themselves are doing?
