Assange is not the only one on the Interpol list...

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2010-12-01/nigeria-to-file-charges-against-former-u-s-vice-president-over-bribery.html

Nigeria will file charges against former U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney and officials from five foreign companies including Halliburton Co. over a $180 million bribery scandal, a prosecutor at the anti-graft agency said.

Indictments will be lodged in a Nigerian court “in the next three days,” Godwin Obla, prosecuting counsel at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, said in an interview today at his office in Abuja, the capital. An arrest warrant for Cheney “will be issued and transmitted through Interpol,” the world’s biggest international police organization, he said.

7. Why celebrate an interpol warrant?
INTERPOL has no law enforcement authority within the United States. INTERPOL cannot conduct searches and seizures, make arrests or take any other law enforcement actions in the United States. Also, the President retains the legal authority to rescind any privileges enjoyed by INTERPOL at any time. No way a former VP is going to be hauled into an international court.

19. He better stay in the U.S. No more trips abroad for the war
criminals. Did they really think the world would ignore their crimes? They are fighting hard to stop all the lawsuits, the prosecutions around the world and I'm sure there will be more. There are many, many victims of their crimes. They will not forget.

But I'm sure even as we speak, that our Democratic President is doing everything he can to protect Darth Vader. Just as he helped protect the torturers from prosecution in Spain.

22. I'm more of a cynic
Bush and Cheney can go anywhere. If any country dared to arrest them, Obama and the US government would be on them like an angry pit bull. The pressure they put on Spain would be nothing compared to the frontal assault that would develop by any country arresting a former president or VP.

I just don't see that happening ever. I'd like to think I'm wrong about this, but, like I said, I'm a cynic.

28. I agree, it not likely to happen. At least not in the current climate.
But Kissenger, eg, cannot travel freely and just putting it on the record that they are wanted men, kind of tarnishes their 'legacies'. And there is always posthumous prosecution. Other war criminals have been prosecuted decades after their crimes were committed. South American countries eg, are doing a good job of that right now.

So long as they go down in history as war criminals. Sad to see this president protecting them.

34. We shouldn't all become so bitter and helpless we can't greet good news when we see it.
No, Cheney won't be arrested because of this any time soon.

Isn't it good when history begins to confirm what we already know, begins to crack the constant power of denial?

Unfortunately, US citizens aren't ready to end the empire that is a millstone to them and a tragedy to the world. In the end, the rest of the world will do that for us. It has already begun, and this will be one small step.

As a next step, I hope the Nigerians file whatever legal action they can in US criminal courts.

Anyone know what the possibilities are?

Best of futures to you,

I think your life was much tougher then mine and most people, that does not feel fair. If there is that balancing of reward later that we all hope exists, I hope it is generous for the hardships you have seen.

14. It is possible, that in his mind set, what he was doing was important.
As he saw it, and that allowed him to do things many other people would choose not to do.

Have you ever started down a path then realize many hours later you were way off coarse? It happens to many people, but the gradualness of it, and some other factors can really effect peoples abilities to see what they themselves are doing, there are so many rationalizations.

I am not arguing for him, but if he did things not feeling, then he had a really tough life. If he did thinking he was correct, then he did the best he could.

It could be an education issue, or a delusion issue, or a hurting issue.

And it is not for me to judge those things anyways, in society there are courts for that, or should be, and in the greater concept of existence, well I have made mistakes also, so going to just leave it at that.

suffers terribly. I'm not a person to normally think that way but this man has been a self-serving monster to the core. He is just as or more to blame for the entire * administration and fleecing of our country for the dreams of a quick (or so they thought) conquer of another.

I hope he suffers - life, in death is the great equalizer. He deserves to have fear, anxiety, pain - lots of pain. Karma is a bitch. I dont wish the pain on his family nor do I wish he was dead, but if he is sick - as he looks it - I hope it hurts A LOT.

Cheers
SAndy the terrible (today re: Cheney)

heck I wish less for Bush - for him, obscurity is fine by me (since a hearing/court/jail/Hague is a 6billion-1), or losing the family fortune through the same bad advice they allowed to corrupt our financial institutions.

13. It already has...
that's why I can say anything I want to.

In my little town, I am pretty well known for doing exactly that.

I do wish Mr. Cheney the worst of all possible Bad.

Fuck him and the horse he rode, unfortunately, to Texas on. He was headed into oblivion when Anne Armstrong selected him to "run" Halliburton.

He's a fake and a tool. Always has been. Never had a real job since he got out of school. Elected once and appointed to everything thereafter.

Fuck him.

23. I understand the sentiment, believe me on that...
... but as someone who has lived in pain every day since an accident 7+ years ago, I wouldn't wish that on anyone..

I'd rather see him convicted of war crimes and punished at The Hauge...

32. I know...
I, too, live with sometime-debilitating pain (as in, there are days when I cannot walk or lift my right arm over my shoulder). I also fly coast-to-coast quite regularly, which is almost unbearable.

But I would gladly escort his sorry ass to The Hague, even if it meant that I would be miserable for a week.

I am sorry about your condition. Sometimes, I feel so alone with mine.

Take care.

20. Yes, so do I as I feel much the same. It's terrible but this is a man
who spent a lifetime in government for self gain not to serve. This is a man that doesnt believe the hoi polloi deserve decent health care that I am sure he is receiving the very best of on our dime.

I've no hate for the man, just wish it was his turn to feel a little 'karma' of his own.

Cheers

12. This is the second pic I've seen where Cheney looks rather sickly..
now to wish someones death IMHO is a terrible thing. I do not wish that - but - hope he suffers. Yep, won't hide that opinion.
When the end comes it's the great equalizer of humanity. He'll finally feel what so many others his policies and political meddling have put upon people around the world - pain, suffering, fear, etc. No amount of $$ can change that fact.

Cheers
Sandy

All that fluid he was retaining is gone, and his color is great. I bet he hangs on for another decade.

But it must be weird, not having a pulse.
