The Party of No
While I agree that the Rethugs deserve this title, I'm also beginning to think that there are a lot of people everywhere who subscribe to this school of thought.

All my life I have been surrounded by naysayers. People who insist that the sky is always gray and it's about to rain. The two industries I work in -- television and publishing -- are notoriously difficult to break into. As I was coming up I was constantly told that my chances of getting in were slim to none. That it's impossible to get past the gatekeepers.

Yet I did it. Very successfully. Why? Because I worked hard and didn't give up. I took the attitude that the naysayers didn't know what they were talking about and that nothing they said would stop me from making my dream a reality.

And I know there are many others here who have survived terrible odds and the naysayers who have hovered around them: your cancer will kill you, you'll be unemployed forever, you'll never be treated equally, our country is doomed...

But this climate of "no" from the very people we look to for support and encouragement is particularly disheartening. It seems to have become an epidemic around here.

But I refuse to listen to you. Things are BETTER NOW than they were three years ago. And they will get better still.

The naysayers, as always, will lose this battle.
