Someone here said they see no difference with McCain or Obama.
Here. At DU.

Really?

Here's what you'd have:

A president who thought the economy was "Strong and getting stronger". And would have done NOTHING to help. Free market solutions only.

GM gone - and up to 1 MILLION downstream jobs gone. (Suppliers, metal shops etc.)
Chrysler gone.

We'd have doubled down in Iraq and Afghanistan. Maybe in Iran by now, or at least bombing it.

No talk of health care reform. At all. Still people getting dropped for pre-existing conditions - even children.

No discussions at ALL about tax cuts - just extensions for the rich (they make jobs ya know) and no cuts for us because we need to sacrifice for the good of the country.

Banks gone, fiscal collapse.

SS gutted, or privatized.
Medicare dramatically slashed.
Medicaid the same.

DADT not even brought up for discussion.

EPA gutted.

No food safety overhaul.

No child food nutrition bill.

Free market solutions for EVERYTHING.

Oil drilling tripled off of our coasts.
Drilling in AMWR (Thanks VP Palin)

Sarah Palin Vice President. Yes, Sarah Palin as Vice President.

Unemployment CUT 1 year ago.

Foreign policy is 'with us or against us'. AGAIN.

Really - McCain would be the same?

5. Get used to it because the new new rules appear to permit it.
Edited on Fri Dec-03-10 12:45 PM by LoZoccolo
It seems that you can also say that you're not voting for Democrats and even that you will work to defeat them.

Stick around if you like having this same argument about the differences between Democrats and Republicans over and over again.

20. That is right. and I am already used to it
I will work to defeat any politician, Dem or Repug, who doesn't address reducing my property taxes.

We will find out how this single issue voting is going to work out for everyone.

Called my state reps and told them this today.

6. The differences are STRIKING.
there's much less of a contrast between DU and FR. Everyone here seems to bash President Obama and all democrats, but seem to look the other way when repukes do wrong. Just look at which ranting posts get the most recs. My guess is that your post won't get many. And that's unfortunate because you make a helluva good point!!

15. We hold Dems to a much higher standard, which is why so many of us
are APALLED by the capitulation of Obama and other Dems (i.e. Dick Durbin & Catfood Commission) to Right wing talking points and policies. I don't get too upset about crazy things Republicans do because I don't expect anything good from them.

were the same

We would be in worse shape if mccain would have been elected.

13. Don't forget: the death of GM would have killed Ford, too
Because they don't do enough business to keep their parts suppliers alive without GM.

14. Palin would have been president by now.
I'm sure McCain would have had "health problems" that forced him to step down, installing the perfect puppet.

16. Oh, there are plenty of differences, and substantive differences at that
But "better than McCain" is a pretty low bar to clear. I guess I had slightly higher hopes. Shame on me for looking for ponies.

17. Although I'm no fan of Obama's. . .
To compare Obama to McCain is just plain STUPID. I voted for Obama despite my dislike, and I'll do so again, as the alternative is quite nauseating.

18. McCain is a worn out angry old man, Obama is youthful and charismatic ...
but inexperienced at leadership.

Obama can learn but you can't teach an old dog new tricks.

19. Would our supposed Democratic Supermajority have let Mayor McCheese get away with all that though?

Most of that stuff the Prez would have been powerless to do without Congress.

Those things you list were campaign promises and I'm sure he'd have been about as effective delivering them as Obama has been so far at delivering his, which is to say not at all.

Not to mention we wouldn't have had a Tea Party, as all of these racist idiots would have just crawled back into their holes after having defeated the great Marxist Kenyan usurper. Those buttnugget teabaggers would not have been seen or heard from again until Obama ran again in 2012, at which point they would have had to defend McCheese's record of failures.

This presidency was really a hot potato. Whoever was left holding it was going to get burned.

21. There's a YouTube video of McCain saying he wanted to get rid of DADT in 2008.
But, that was back when McCain was campaigning to be the president.
It was just a silly campaign promise made by an inexperienced presidential candidate running for a national office to serve in the White House, that he never intended to keep.

McCain has run twice for the White House.
And he still has to get an invitation to visit it!!!

But, don't worry, now 2 years later, McCain will do everything he can to hold up any change in DADT because he is the only veteran in Congress.

Or so, he thinks.
