Jim DeMint (R-SC): Economy is "waiting to roar back," but it can't without permanent Bush Tax Cuts©

Sen. Jim DeMint and Rep. Mike Pence made an appearance on John King's show with their latest set of demands on extending tax cuts for the rich.

So much for Pence's previous inadvertent admission that they didn't work.

GOP's DeMint and Pence Tout Permanent-Tax-Cuts-For-All Bill:

A pair of prominent Republicans -- one from the Senate, the other from the House – on Thursday called for a permanent extension of tax cuts at all income levels, just as a vigorous floor debate was under way about Democratic legislation to extend tax relief for just the middle class.

"Sen. Jim DeMint and I are introducing legislation that will ensure that no American, small business owner or family farmer will see a tax increase on Jan. 1, 2011, 2012, 2013 and beyond," said Indiana Rep. Mike Pence.

DeMint and Pence introduced the bill before Thanksgiving, but started promoting it Thursday. They want an up-or-down vote on all the tax cuts at the same time, a permanent end to the estate tax and a fix for the alternative minimum tax. The duo told reporters that uncertainty about future tax rates is stifling economic recovery.

"The economy is waiting to roar back in this country," DeMint of South Carolina said, "and the fact that we have waited this long to even address the issue tells you that the people running this government don't understand how business works."

1. What fucking lies
The tax cuts didn't work during all the Bush years. They will not work.
Let them expire Obama.

2. funny thing is I think once the tax cuts are renewed the economy
will start to pickup, but the tax cuts will have nothing to do with it. I think the lack of hiring has to do with politics.

6. Even if they are not renewed
The economy will pickup. Sadly if there is any kind of compromise the republicans will use it to say "see we told you tax cuts work", so I say no compromise, let them expire if we have to but don't let the republicans win this one!

22. I agree. The business world and the teabaggers and the gop have
been working together to bring down what we have been trying to do. Businesses refused to spend the stimulus money while gop kept saying it was not working. Once the pugs are back in power the economy will pick up a bit BUT they are forgetting one big issue. We the people (the consumers) are broke and if we are not we are afraid to spend.

As the saying goes, "You can lead a horse to water but you cannot make him drink."

9. Oh yes they are.
They'll buy it, and when the economy finally DOES get better (on the assumption it will, at least temporarily or in appearance), the only connection the media will make is 'passed tax cuts, economy better'.

There's a reason they're willing to swallow this early appearance of nastiness - they're counting on no one remembering it in 2 years. To show what a difference 2 years is, remember that 2 years ago a landslide majority of the populace wanted CHANGE. That same group voted out control of the House when one half-change showed up on their doorstep and insisted on bringing back in the same people they positively despised 2 years previously, and COMPLETELY overlooked the fact that all they had done for 2 years was pout, whine, and tantrum.

7. I still say there is a corporate "plot". When tax cuts are extended many
giant corps will start hiring immediately and the tax cuts will get the credit. It's all fixed, rigged, set up.

8. It may roar back, but not because the wealthy get a tax break.
More properly because you have asked labor to triple their effort for static pay.

12. So why haven't they worked yet?
Job creation and the economy were abysmal during the Bush years, as we saw record deficits and more people slide into poverty. I hope nobody had the bad taste to ask the fine gentlemen these questions or point out these inconvenient facts.

that's 80,000 a YEAR.

Not good enough.

It'll continue to fizzle because of your DAMNED tax cuts. May the Lord strike them DEAD forever and ever. They will never be revived from the dead for the World to Come.

You could almost PREDICT that DeMint would say something like this. It's what they ALWAYS say.

This is hardly breaking news.
