Alec Baldwin: Hang One, Hang 'Em All
Hang One, Hang 'Em All
Alec Baldwin
Actor

I hope they catch that WikiLeaks guy. I hope they catch him and prosecute him for all its worth. I hope they, legally speaking, throttle this guy within an inch of his life. If what he has done has truly compromised the safety of American intelligence and diplomatic operatives around the world, he should be punished for it. Even if you can not prove that anyone directly suffered as the result of those leaks, it's the principle, right?

Kind of like an attempted murder charge, right?

Only one condition. You hold formal hearings on the Valerie Plame scandal. And you put that Low-Down-Gutless-Excuse-For-A-Vice-President Dick Cheney and that crypto-fascist maniac Richard Armitage on trial. Same as Julian Assange.

Cheney and Armitage. Assange goes on trial, they go on trial.

1. Another ignorant Baldwin.
Cheney, Armitage et al are American Citizens sworn to uphold the laws and Constitution of the USA.

Assange is not. He is a reporter who has no obligation to keep our secrets.

2. I think there's something you may have missed...
...maybe the point is that if people are so mad about someone from another country revealing things, why aren't they made about our own citizens doing the same thing...

6. I think you've got it right, TCJ70. What's pathetic is that the voices that...
...resonate are those of Alec Baldwin and Donald Trump. Will the words of Al Franken on the floor of the Senate yesterday garner as much notice?

I know, I know, same as it ever was...

18. He's 'agreeing' with the pro-prosecute assange crowd, if only they will be consistent and investigat
Cheney and buddies the same way.

He's not really adovcating prosecuting Assange, he's pointing out blatant hypocrisy.

9. Did you hear the point when it flew over your head?
If he's ignorant, and you can not understand him, what does that make you, Einstien's gag writer?

22. Umm, actually, if that's what you think he said, then you didn't understand him perfectly.
You seem to think he was actually calling for Assange to be prosecuted.

17. After all, we don't have any duty to keep the secrets of Russia or China
or Iran or Sweden or Italy or any other country.

Maybe state secrets are an unrealistic thing of the past? Maybe in this day of world trade, constant travel, the internet and international phone calls and Skype, state secrets really are no longer realistic.

13. And Marc Grossman too Alec? He beat both Libby and Armitage! GET INFORMED! Too bad you can't!
Edited on Sun Dec-05-10 08:24 PM by cascadiance
That's why Assange and Wikileaks are needed now when our government and corporate media doesn't do their job! So that you can properly challenge your anger to get ALL of the culprits behind things like the Valerie Plame/Brewster Jennings scandal, not just who the corporate media says you should.

15. I love Alec, but he's dead wrong on this one.
Assange is a big hero.

These information needs to go public, and I look forward to seeing more and more Rethuglicans go down because of Wikileaks.

20. I believe Baldwin is defending Assange.
He's pretending to agree with the accusers, then pointing out the hypocrisy of their accusations. It's an old Mark Twain trick.

23. I'm sitting here stunned that people miss that. DU used to be way smarter than this.
Mark Twain. Hell, it's in the Bible, with the "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone" parable. It's not even particularly subtle.

26. I think he forgot the sarcasm thingy when he was talking about Assange.
Though superficially he is making a false equivalence. Assange acted as a journalist, and not an American journalist. What Cheney and friends did was far, far worse because they are Americans, and were supposedly public servants.
