Turns out that UN spying was just the tip of the iceberg, according to Wikileaks

I've been looking through the Wikileaks cables, which are currently available Here, and I've found something surprising: first, that the things that they were requesting people to get from members of the UN is much greater than has been reported, secondly that there's block of text outlining things that diplomats are supposed to collect from officials in their host countries, which is reproduced word for word in cable after cable, which includes credit card numbers, frequent flier numbers, and other data. Looking through the cables, which are all issued from the Secretary of State's office, which are conveniently available Here, this block of text appears in "Reporting and Collection Needs" for Slovenia, Bulgaria, Romania, Paraguay, and Hungary.

1. I hope DU is not under threat of being shut down if

3. It's being reproduced all over the internet.
From Gaurdian, to NYT, The Raw Story, Slate, Christian Science Monitor. There isn't really a risk to reproducing the information. It is out there in the public now.

4. Uh huh.
I'm shocked that you're shocked. Intelligence officials always want to know more, not less. Advances in communications and DNA research are just Christmas to them. I can see the day they take a DNA ancestry analysis to some official and say, "I know you think you're.... but you're really.... And we can prove it."

They like to think this will matter. Who knows? Maybe it will. Maybe they'll bungle it as usual.
