A tax cut compromise that we can all get behind?
After giving the current national debate about the so-called Bush Tax Cuts, specifically those geared toward the upper class, some more thought, I’ve decided that if the (upper-class) tax cuts are temporarily extended for, say, 1-2 years, then the compromise put forward by President Obama and Democrats should be that:

1.) Businesses need to be held accountable and demonstrate that they are utilizing the tax cuts during this time period to actually create jobs in order to receive any additional extensions. Any further extensions by Congress will be dependent on their ability to demonstrate at least some value of lowering tax rates for the upper class. After all, The Republicans are forever talking about the need to cut programs and stop spending money on programs that don’t work.

2.) Businesses need to commit to faithfully paying any past tax debts/arrears, as well as paying what they actually owe in taxes from here on out without resorting to any financial games or trickery such as keeping their money outside of the country. After all, doesn’t everybody need to pay their fair share in this day and age?

3.) Republicans need to be held accountable for proposing a plan- agreeable to everybody- to pay for the extension of tax cuts. After all, they demand that Democrats figure out how to pay for things all the time. Why should they be able to exempt themselves from this requirement and isn’t doing so demonstrating “fiscal responsibility”?

1. What reality do they live in?
1.) Businesses need to be held accountable
2.) Businesses need to commit to faithfully
And the best for last
3.) Republicans need to be held accountable

7. The author didn't say that such a compromise would be all that likely or realistic
They were just talking about what they think SHOULD happen.

2. If we imposed mandatory hiring requirements upon businesses, I could get behind it
And they would have to be living wage jobs here in America.

Then I could get behind keeping their taxes down.

3. A nice gesture, but they'll never go for it
Either that, or they'll find (or create) so many loopholes that the compromise is worthless.

Obama needs to grow a pair and honor his campaign pledge for once.

4. I can not get behind that.
They would agree to it and do none of it. Worse still they already claim those things and nobody holds them to it now. Why would you believe them to change in the future.

The fact is the tax cuts for the wealthy need to expire and then be drastically increased so we can pay for everything they want so badly such as our perpetual war.

5. As you pointed out, faith and accountability aren't Rethug crime family values.
And what they're asking is more than just "unrealistic"--it's fiscally and morally irresponsible.

8. I think that the irresponsibility of their demands were alluded to
Their tactics are even more reprehensible.

6. The repugs don't want to extend them for 1-2 years
They want to extend them for at least 6 years. I heard something on the TV or radio this morning that they want to extend them until Obama is out of office. They want top balance the budget is bullshit. As soon as they get into power in the house, they will start spending all sorts of money investigating Obama, for whatever reason they can come up with.
