Australia bans holiday travel for dead-beat parents

Sydney - Australians who are behind with child-support payments risk being turned away from airports this Christmas season, officials said Sunday.

'We would prefer not to spoil anyone's holiday plans, but when it comes to children who have gone without payments for a significant period of time, the agency has no choice,' Human Services Minister Tanya Plibersek said in a statement.

She said travel bans awaited those who consistently failed to pay a former partner for the upkeep of children from a failed relationship.

Men figure in most of the 841 travel bans in place and the bulk of the 869 million Australian dollars (843 million US dollars) owed.

1. On the one hand, I have no problem with getting tough on deadbeats
But on the other hand, I hope they make some exceptions, such as flying last-minute because one of your parents is on their deathbed or something like that.

4. Same as here. They decided to do it, and are trying to justify it.
It is a " don't blame me for my decision" cop out.
