Well, WikiLinks has caused a stir - but what real bombshells are going to come out of it? So far, it's been a little ho-hum.

Let's place some bets. What do you suspect is going on that WikiLinks might confirm as documents become available?

5. We're going to find out that Christine O'Donnell ...
... spent $6 million on that loser campaign in Delaware. $6 million that could have helped the unemployed and uninsured.

Oh, I guess we already learned that!

6. Pat Tillman was killed by friendly fire, and the cover up went all the way to the top
Bush and Cheney both approved the cover up. The hope was a Silver Star citation would seal the case. Bush is dirty and needs to answer for Tillman's death personally.

7. Not to diminish Tillman's death, but...
... is that the only thing you want Bush to account for? I can think of another dozen things.

But you're right, his first responsibility is to address the lives he took, and this would be a good start.

15. We need to get our foot in the door
If Eric Holder could put just one of Bush's inner circle in front of a Grand Jury, they would sing like a bird to save their own sorry hide. As charges are brought against other members of the Bush Administration, they would also cut a deal with prosecutors until Bush and Cheney are behind bars for the rest of their natural lives.

13. If you can't see what bombshells already have come, you probably won't see those still ahead.
Today I saw Yemeni authorities found a downed spy-drone plane in March 2007. It was American. The Yemeni government was unhappy, this flight was unauthorized. The Americans applied some pressure, and the Yemeni government then falsely identified the drone as Iranian to the Yemeni and world public. This is deception of the people. This is reckless endangerment. This kind of deception can lead to war with thousands of people murdered. This kind of deception is being conducted with your tax dollars.

This is one of dozens of such stories now coming out. What qualifies as a "bombshell," pray tell?

The US pressured Spain in a variety of ways not to investigate tortures, kidnappings and illegal imprisonments of Spanish citizens by the Bush regime. US and UK pressured the new IAEA chief in 2009 to adopt their line on Iran, regardless of what IAEA inspections show, and also to tie Iran to North Korea. The Russians showed the US convincingly that Iran does not have missiles capable of reaching Europe, as the US claims, and that one of the claimed missiles may not even exist, but the US kept on with its scare story. US diplomats are asked to spy on UN diplomats, to gather passwords and biometric information, in violation of UN rules to which the US is party. Diplomats are asked to spy on pretty much everyone -- not simply to gather intelligence, but to spy on individuals, against the laws of nations. The list of targets for State Department spying is drawn up by the CIA (which from the beginning has lived as a parasite within the State Department, its most common cover agency).

There's a lot more, and that's with still less than 1000 cables of 250,000 released through press organs.

"Old news" is not an excuse. Documentary confirmation counts for more than deniable surmise, however logical the latter may often be. "Every government does it" is a particularly immoral excuse. All it means at best (i.e., insofar as it is true) is that most of the world has a problem with unaccountable and corrupt and dangerous government, like the US.

"For my own protection, please don't tell me when you lie to me because you're professional and know better" is not a democratic stand. It is an authoritarian and fearful one, and in practice (realism!) it always inevitably enables abuse.
