VIRGINIA BEACH - How many homes and hotels can be built at the Oceanfront?

Both sides tamped down growing questions Friday about whether the city's long-term development plan, which includes a new convention center hotel, would conflict with operations at Oceana Naval Air Station.
"We've got a good thing going," Virginia Beach City Manager Jim Spore said after Friday's meeting between Beach officials and Oceana's leadership.
The meeting was called because of concerns raised by Pentagon officials, who are also reviewing whether a homeland security radar at Oceana would conflict with the convention center hotel.
In 2005, a federal commission recommended that the master jet base be moved from Virginia Beach because too many homes were being built too close to Oceana. That prompted efforts to keep the base, the city's largest employer.
