So about this compromise thing
Edited on Mon Dec-06-10 03:49 PM by Cyrano
Would you compromise with people intent on bankrupting you?

Would you compromise with people who believe democracy is just a meaningless word?

Would you compromise with people who oppose everything you believe?

Would you compromise with people who’ll betray any compromise you make with them?

Would you compromise with people who think the constitution is just a piece of paper?

Would you compromise with people who think truth is nothing more than propaganda?

Would you compromise with people of ill will?

Would you compromise with people trying to destroy you?

Mr. President, is there anything on which you won’t compromise? And by the way, compromise doesn't mean surrender.

2. Ask the unemployed how they feel about this

I'm sure they are holding their breaths praying for this compromise to work. Why
don't any of the critics of this possible compromise put themselves in their shoes?

3. Because bringing humanity into it spoils the politics for them.
How can they be 'all or nothing' about people losing their precarious incomes? Easier to deny the reality of the unemployed. Like the Krugman and Frank Rich articles being posted and reposted...neither of them address the unemployed. But they bash Obama so they're now the gospel.

Sorry for the rant but this pisses me off.

4. We do. But this is a very, very slippery slope!
There is absolutely no way working people can allow unemployment INSURANCE to become part of any tax deal! EVER! If the Corporations succeed in this they have an incentive to keep unemployment high and wring concession after concession from working families in pay, benefits, and social programs. It would be the end of what is left of the New Deal! This will turn the current race to the bottom into an avalanche.

5. Stop the robbery. Let the tax cuts friggin expire.

It should be handled separately. Republicans will have to come around and vote for an extension of unemployment given their own republicans constituents are unemployed as well.
