Looks like Obama is setting the stage to end Social Security
Or at least sabotage it... One year suspension? Looks like the door just opened a crack.

There is absolutely no justification to reduce Social Security taxes unless you are wanting to end it.

I often wondered if it would be a 'Democratic' President to do it...

"WASHINGTON — Brushing past Democratic opposition, President Barack Obama announced agreement with Republicans Monday night to extend expiring tax cuts for all Americans, renew jobless benefits and grant a one-year reduction in Social Security taxes for millions.

Let me get this right, he's reducing the amount of money going into SS via this, correct?

1. Not if they transfer the money from the general fund to the trust fund to make up for it.

That's what every proposal for a payroll tax holiday has ever done. I haven't seen the legislative language here, but I have seen no source to indicate it would be any different.

They were trying to cut SS on one end, and now defunding it on the other.
These fuckers are ruthless.

2. plain as the nose on my face
I already called my senators and left a message with both of them (their phones are ringing off the hook!) and asked that they stand with Senator Sanders in doing whatever it takes to stop this charade.

4. Empires at the end stage eat the core
this is exactly what is happening.

It goes without saying that this will be all but good for this President... And I cannot wait for the breathless defenders to get their talking points.

5. Need factual clarification
I heard "reduction of 2% in payroll taxes" - not - "2% reduction in contribution toward Social Security". Which part of payroll withholding is involved???? I thought it meant a 2% reduction in the amount withheld for income taxes, meaning a reduction in income taxes for the period involved. Someone who knows the facts please post.

8. This was from MSNBC.
They wrote that so that is why I posted my post.

We all really need to contact Ms. Polosi and say NO to this. (A bill would have to be voted on in the House for this to be a reality)

6. I love the way you've taken Tweety's lead on this
. . .and turned it into a foregone conclusion. Unbelievable how quick you've shifted from one formerly hypothetical argument to this dubious one.

7. I don't get it at all -
- the less you pay in, the less you receive when you draw Social Security. The less you pay in, the less there is to sustain Social Security in the interim. This reduction will ultimately SCREW people when they go to draw their SS IF - and its a very big IF - Social Security survives after this reduction in funding.

I'm not understanding this at all.

9. No, you get it...
This is the first step to end SS. This is the last remaining stash of cash to steal and it looks like Obama just opened the door.

12. A "one year suspension"
Just like Bush's tax cuts were "temporary". This is no doubt an all out attack on Social Security. Hopefully someday we will have a Democrat in office.
