3. For the moment, it's the premier LIBERAL American political forum.
Remember, we're the ones who, if we had our choice, would have elected Dennis Kucinich President, twice. DU's membership is to the left of the American People, in general, and to the left of the mainstream Democratic Party.

As you can see, the left is quite upset at the moment. That's what you're seeing.

63. The mainstream Democratic Party may be more liberal than you suggest.
It seems that in most polls, going back decades, the American people are significantly more liberal on the issues than most of their elected officials, in both parties.

There's a disconnect here that is remarkably unremarked upon in the corporate media. Those politicians that are outliers usually are vilified in the same media, particularly the ones on the left. What does that tell you?

41. Who is "we"?
I don't remember a majority of support for Kucinich in this forum at any point in the 2008 election cycle. Nor for that matter 2004. If DU elected the President, based on the primary arguments et cetera, we MIGHT have a President Hillary Clinton instead of Barack Obama, but she is not any more of a 'liberal' or a 'progressive', and is just as much a politician of the centre-right.

57. I remember seeing primary polls both in 2004 and 2008 that Kucinich won handily here.
DU would have nominated Kucinich both times. Feel free to do the research, if you're so inclined.

Indeed, though, you ask a good question, "Who is 'we?'"

And I ask the question because I think it's presumptuous of you to speak for everyone here when not everyone here shares your opinions.

Also? You do the research, and post it here. You're making the claim, you back it up. The burden of proof is on your side.

I remember the primary season of both 2004 and 2008 here quite well enough to doubt your claim that Kucinich had a solid majority of support; you claim otherwise, yet you're too lazy to back it up. So I can only assume that means you're prepared to withdraw your assertions?

78. Not at all.
Not only do you not understand math, you apparently don't understand politics. Look at the results of the poll you posted. From autumn 2007, months before the primaries. Kucinich was at 380 out of 1076, less than 40% of the total. Candidates marginally or significantly to his right had most of the rest of the votes, which says, what? That the majority of DU is to the right of Dennis Kucinich. Not that DU would have nominated Kucinich. That 35% or so was probably his ceiling. even on DU; as other candidates in the field of Edwards/Biden/Clinton/Obama/etc, the 'mainstream' Democrats, dropped out, one or another of the other not-Kucinich choices would have picked up their support. This is how politics and the nominating process works. Thanks for playing, though.

Edited on Tue Dec-07-10 01:15 PM by JuniperLea
I fall off the scale to the left. I'm what my mom used to call a bleeding heart, tree hugging liberal. I am quite used to not getting everything I want; it really wouldn't be fair to all if I did.

What I'm seeing is a lot of people who want the same things I do, but have no patience for doing the right thing. They want what they want, no compromise.

I used to be that way too. Not a healthy place to be, imho. This is where politics becomes a hell of a lot like religion: there's always some pontificator who thinks that what they want is the right way, and the best for all. The only problem with that way of thinking is that there are thousands of other pontificators just like them, but with a different POV.
