Remember the days when media scandals forced resignations? Remember Watergate? These things are the media’s preferred image of its own status and achievements. They don’t happen often. They may never happen again, at this rate.

Liberal media rarely penetrates the various wholesome managing cults of Feudal America, and when it does, doesn’t seem to know who to tell about what it knows, and obviously doesn’t expect any results.

Finding out the truth used to be a media mission, a pillar of democracy, etc. Now it’s quite the opposite, providing the information is now about to become an offense with statutes and case law to back it up. The Wikileaks witch hunt could become a model for dealing with any problematic facts which happen to get into the public eye.

The long term problem is the overkill reaction against Wikileaks. This is the recipe for abuse of power, and it has to be put under control. Creating a monster with the legal power to selectively censor and suppress information on this scale is not likely to be a great idea. It could be used to attack any form of opposition. Whatever you think of Wikileaks or Assange, bear in mind the whole role of news media is potentially on the line.
