Kabuki democracy
I've heard the term "voodoo politics" (Naomi Klein talks about it in The Shock Doctrine). I think a better term for the current system in this country is "Kabuki democracy", because the main trick they use over and over is try to deceive us with theatrics.

If they (Obama and Democratic leadership in Congress) had been serious about getting things done like making the middle-class tax cuts permanent, extending unemployment insurance, creating a tax on corporate offshoring of jobs, shifting money away from the war budget and over to domestic stimulus spending, etc, then they could have pushed all those things through with the budget reconciliation process. That's exactly how Reagan, Clinton, and Bush II did it. That's how the Bush tax cuts that are now expiring were enacted in the first place. There's no reason that they could not have done this. It might have required some private deals being cut with a few Democrats to get a simple majority in each body, but that's always how laws have been passed.

Instead they wait until a time when a budget reconciliation bill is not permitted under the rules and then make a big show of *trying* but failing because now they need 60 votes in the Senate rather than 50 under reconciliation. It's just Kabuki theater -- this is not a serious attempt to get it done.

1. If you control the groups that speak for both sides of an argument.

And the people that tell you about it.

Then there does not have to be any discussion or argument, as you said it can be theater.

I figure they decide what legislation they want, then decide what PR will be allow that to look best, even when actually best for them.

Although a few people stand against it, or try to explain it.

If you understand some in society think people should be treated as children, some think of it as if they are the parents discussing what will be done, then going to tell the child after they decide. That is how they want it. But in the family example the child is cared for and loved by the parents. Do they show love for most in society or themselves, then say they are using tough love on everyone else.

Do you see that from the money people? They think of themselves as the parents, how do they treat the children? Hence why a little Child Protective Service is needed, when bad foster parents beat down the children just to get some kind of check for themselves.

Or what I think the meaning of the visual in this song is. (note the Jedi Garb) (note it is a metaphor for society)

Tears for fears - Shout

The thing is, children most of the time give parents life. As the many in society actually give to those that want to be in power. Not for the child's gain, but because of love of a child, and a child wants to please authority, should the parents use that desire in all people to beat someone down?

Money first concepts, could be said to be child abusers, if they claim most people are only children.

Then again, they might use empathy breakers to say that they are someone elses kids and should be hurt. Who is your brother and sister, all people, or only those that when you help them, you get something, or that have the same thoughts you have. Furthermore, would a person be picked to only help other picked people? Does that really make sense, what is the responsibility of someone with some authority or power?

Most people of authority understand it is to help many people, so it comes down to what is the best way to do that, and that requires conversations and discussions with open minds.

Really brilliant phrasing, 'love to break your heart' <- backwards, and not, at the same time, I figure it was a weakness in a moment, but love gets in there somewhere. Good and bad in everything, and I think that part is bad in that song, but try to see it a different way.
