Christian bookstores and the economy news ...
I just received an email forwarded from a list for a local Christian bookstore. They said their suppliers are requiring more stringent credit and they are reducing sales force. Some suppliers are eliminating them from their cold-call list altogether. They are complaining that fiction sales are equal or surpassing sales of the Bible. (As one who does not believe in the infallibility of the Bible, I find this so ironic!) anyway, they were begging for word-of-mouth free advertising so they don't go out of business.

I say "Welcome to Your Christian Corporatist America (that you helped create by pushing ultra-conservative candidates.)"

2. How do you make the Christian to corporatist connection?
I don't get it.

Lots of Christians (like many here at DU) aren't corporatists and many corporatists aren't Christian even if they sit in a pew once a week.

Even larger Christian groups do things like run hospitals for the poor.

This looks more like a slap of the broad brush bordering on a slur than an actual point.

Why pick a needless fight and be hurtful to people?

Why not support a small business and their employees who aren't hurting anybody?

on an ultra-conservative platform. If that's how he is, that's how he votes and what he supports.

No, not all of them are like this group, but I'm in deep south Texas. There isn't much tolerance for liberal Christianity where I live.

6. Christians have bowed down to the retail monster...
and are complaining they are getting bitten in the ass?

Walk into any Lifeway bookstore and you'll see that most of what they sell has little to do with the bible. I think they are experiencing firsthand "You shall reap what you sow."
