1. The repeal is in the defense appropriations bill which might be voted on as early as Friday.
Excerpt:
A vote on the DREAM Act is still scheduled for Wednesday and Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Carl Levin (D-Mich.) said he was "hopeful" Reid would file cloture on the defense bill the same day, meaning a vote could come as early as Friday. "We've got the time," said Levin. "Just take it."

2. The senate has a lot to do with it, i.e., 60 votes. We don't have them now and it's impossible next
congress.

3. We have MORE than 60 votes now.
Edited on Tue Dec-07-10 10:57 PM by Tx4obama
Republicans that have said they will probably vote 'yes':
Olympia Snowe - Maine
Susan Collins - Maine
Scott Brown - Massachusetts
George Voinovich - Ohio
John Ensign - Nevada
Lisa Murkowski - Alaska

Democrats that have gone from a no/maybe/undecided to a probable 'yes': Jim Webb (VA), Blanche Lincoln (AR), Mark Warner (VA)

UPDATE: Edited to remove Senator Lugar - http://gay.americablog.com/2010/12/looks-like-weve-lost-lugar-on-dadt-he.html

4. That's shaky. "Lucy " Collins and "Lucy" Snowe are doubtful, IMO. If Lugar
said he would vote, he will, also Voinovich can be trusted if he said he would vote yes. We can't trust the other 3 in the list, especially Brown and Ensign.

Pryor (AR) is a no for sure. Webb? That's a tough one.

5. Brown issued a statement.
Edited on Tue Dec-07-10 10:42 PM by Tx4obama
Brown issued a statement regarding his support of the DADT repeal.
Ensign also supports the repeal - it was announced on MSNBC a few days ago.
Warner's office said he is going to vote 'yes' for the repeal.
Murkowski stated in public she will not oppose the DADT repeal.

9. If we could keep the Democrats on this, we might squeeze it through. Pryor (AR)
can't vote for it because the fundamentalists would go after him with pitchforks. It all comes down to Do We Trust The Republicans who say that they will vote for it.

7. Lugar has since said he will not vote for the defense authorization bill (with DADT) this year.
Edited on Tue Dec-07-10 10:41 PM by BzaDem
Says we need "more time" to consider it. (I.e. until there's a Republican house that will ensure it's blocked.)

19. Pryor is now a 'YES' !!!
Pryor Announces Support For Repealing Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell: ‘I Accept The Pentagon’s Recommendations’

From his statement:

On many previous occasions, I have said that I would oppose repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell until I had heard from our servicemen and women regarding this policy. I have now carefully reviewed all of the findings, reports, and testimony from our armed forces on this matter and I accept the Pentagon’s recommendations to repeal Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. I also accept the Secretary of Defense and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs’ commitment that this policy can be implemented in a manner that does not harm our military’s readiness, recruitment, or retention. We have the strongest military in the world and we will continue to do so by ensuring our troops have the resources necessary to carry out their missions. Therefore, I support the 2011 Defense Authorization Act that passed the Senate Armed Services Committee and will support procedural measures to bring it to a vote this year.

22. According to the updates there on your link it looks like just a snag.

Edited to add:
And according to this link http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/12/08/dadt-hangs-in-balance-as-_n_793848.html
Excerpt:
Whether those requirements will be met is truly up to the whims of those laying out the requirements. Early in the day, talks between Democratic leadership and Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) over procedural issues hit a snag, the Plum Line's Greg Sargent reported.

Shortly thereafter, however, Sen. Joseph Lieberman (I-Conn) put out a statement insisting that negotiations with Collins were proceeding in "good faith," followed by a tweet affirming that 60 votes were there to repeal DADT.

Edited on Wed Dec-08-10 03:10 PM by Tx4obama
He has agreed to offer Collins four hours of debate on a couple amendments instead of two hours on each.
Didn't hear what she has said yet.

6. All of these "probable yes votes" FILIBUSTERED when it was brought up in September.
You are correct that they could all change their minds now. They might very well do so, and there will be a vote. But let's just be clear that DADT being repealed relies on these former filibusterers to decide to stop filibustering. That's why it's unclear.

16. My feeling is this is a GOP wedge issue they don't want to lose... and
Obama will not overturn it -- might do the GOP harm!

I could be wrong, but think the position has just been held until GOP could get

back into stronger position and begin the anti-homosexual propaganda over again --

new studies, new garbage --

I hope to hell I'm wrong cause I'd like to see someone win something for these past

two years of aggravation!!

17. I believe it will be repealed by Congress before Christmas, because....
Edited on Tue Dec-07-10 11:06 PM by Tx4obama

because with a repeal from congress Gates & others will have more wiggle room to implement it over a 'period of time', whereas if it is overturned by the Appeals Court then it will be 'immediate' - and the military heads don't want to be told what to do by the Courts.

18. Not sure what the Appeals Court is doing on this ... but Obama is appealing ....
Edited on Tue Dec-07-10 11:16 PM by defendandprotect
that could create the time lag into new session of Congress --

I'd also now expect other moves by GOP now to stop the Appeals Court --

notice how the GOP takes charge even when they're not in power yet!!

Watched those military leaders the other day -- really makes me frightened for

the country. We should have them appearing regularly so the country gets a good look!!

Doubt they want to be told by Congress what to do any more than by the Courts --

this is a simple issue: homophobia in military costs us a ton of money -- it's unjust

and discriminatory and should be unConstitutional.

And don't think Obama has gone this far with this issue and not fighting it only to see

Congress overturn it.

Again -- hope I'm wrong!!

As for a period of adjustment -- don't think that's necessary.

Military TELLS troops here it is - no more homophobia -- or you'll pay for it.

It's the guys with the silly stuff on their uniforms who remain rigid and homophobic.

They'll try to continue it.
