Chisholm Elementary School third-graders perform ‘How Santa Got His Job’

EDMOND — Third-graders at Chisholm Elementary School in Edmond blended several favorite holiday traditions last week in performances of “How Santa Got His Job.”

The program, which was presented Thursday afternoon and evening and Friday morning for relatives and students, opens with the song “Hanukkah is Here.”

The play begins in a classroom, where children have just finished learning about the Jewish festival of lights. The students ask if they can learn about the legend of Santa Claus, which prompts the reading of the book “How Santa Got His Job.”

As the “teacher” reads her “students” passages from the book, the third-graders launch into various upbeat song and dance numbers as they follow a timeline of Santa’s resume: his first job as a chimney sweep; delivering packages for the post office; his gig as a waiter, which made him enormously fat; his stint as an animal trainer, where he hooked up with the flying reindeer; and ending with him being launched from a cannon in the circus, where finally he meets some toy-making elves.

Those children are suffering terribly. Oh the huge manatee of it! School. Religion. Singing. Joy. These things should not be allowed to co-exist. Might kill someone or hurt them at least. Won't someone, anyone, think of the children?
