Coast Guard May Not Get Their New $300~$400 Million Dollar Toy
unhappycamper note: Since the ‘Pentagon’ (DoD? Gannett?) has ‘requested’ that I only post one paragraph from articles on Army Times, and Airforce Times, To keep in that same (new) tradition, I will also do the same for for articles on Navy Times, Marine Corps Times, stripes.com and military.com.
To read the article in the military's own words, you will need to click the link.

Read all about Fair Use here. It sure is beginning to smell like fascism.

unhappycamper summary of this article: This new pig-in-a-poke was originally in the Deepwater program: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Offshore_Patrol_Cutter

Other Navy craft already built include the waaaay overpriced LCSs, and the $5+ billion dollar Zumwalt-class destroyers.

The Offshore Patrol Cutter, which the Coast Guard is getting ready to begin buying, appears likely to fall to the OMB ax, says one source who closely follows the Coast Guard. Worth somewhere between $300 million and $400 million through the life of the program, the OPC would replace the Famour and Reliance class cutters.
