Portia de Rossi has turned down an offer to appear on DWTS as half of the show's first same-sex team
Portia de Rossi has turned down an offer to appear on Dancing With the Stars as half of the show's first same-sex team.

Portia de Rossi will not be on Dancing with the Stars next season -- and neither will any other same-sex couple.

A source with ABC says after Portia turned them down, they weren't able to come up with another non-offensive gay or lesbian to feature -- ironic, considering the offensiveness of that very idea.

"If Portia had agreed then this would have been a done deal," said the source. "She was the only star that could have pulled this off without completely offending the program's conservative viewers."

Now DWTS producers plan to wait out the gay marriage controversy until featuring a same-sex dancing team. The source says they don't want to "rush into creating a same-sex dancing couple just to get attention and publicity."

3. She is an actress and is married to Ellen Degeneres
Previous reports claimed the former Ally McBeal actress — who’s married to chat show host Ellen Degeneres — would appear on next year’s season of the hit ballroom series.

5. She's an actress.
She has appeared on "Arrested Development" and "Ally McBeal," among other places. She's also Ellen Degeneres' wife.

As for "who gives a damn about DWTS," I'm totally with you on that. I just don't understand the appeal.

:hi:

11. She's in 'Better Off Ted' - awesome show (but you'll have to look it up online)
I don't care about DWTS or Ally McBeal either.

9. I'm glad she had the taste to turn down the offer.
No doubt the teabagging crazies behind "Operation Bristol" would have made Portia an early victim in the competition, regardless of any dancing talent she may have.

This show like so much of trash tv should not be an option for someone with class. Let the Palins, Delays and all the other assholes "perform" and let their followers vote. There's no entertainment value in it anyway.

13. They can't find any of the "Wide Stance" republicans to do it?

I mean Dancing With The Stars is pretty much circling the drain of TV, but its still a step up from an airport bathroom (probably).

14. Exploitation....
I'm not surprised that Portia doesn't wish to be exploited in that way. (Not to mention the subject of the RW homophobic hate campaigns--all in the name of ratings)

15. Good
Portia still has a career. DWTS is where you go if your career is gone or you're a reality star looking for an extra 15 minutes.

20. There is no other "non-offensive gay or lesbian" to feature?
That phrase alone is disgusting. But I'm surprised they didn't offer it to Portia's real life partner, Ellen DeGeneres. I though she was the ultimate "non-offensive" lesbian, always on TV shows and commercials. And she loves to dance. (Yes, there is sarcasm in this post.)

Portia should be a bit miffed that she isn't considered "offensive" enough!
