Poll question: Are you using CFL and/or LED lights in your domicile?
CFL's are getting brighter and whiter, LED's are getting cheaper and more available. All of my flashlights are now LED. EVERY light in my apartment except the refrigerator and range hood are CFL. I actually had one go that was three years old last week, surprisingly. I bought all new bright ones and gave my daughter my extra and used ones and she replaced everything she could in her house.

What say you?

1. looks like my old kitteh, perfect scarab on the forehead
LED's are the shiznit - now lets get some good USA manufacturers
I'm sick of buying my stage par led's from China. I need the kilowatts for the tour amps and JBL's

3. All except 2 lights in my house are CFL
Been using them for about 10 years now. On the average they last me about 5 years.

Haven't put in any LED lights yet because cost/brightness ratio isn't worth it yet.

8. Are they much better than Kitten-Oil lamps?
I would love a whale oil lighting system, but kitten are just so much easier to stumble across.

Plus kittens are a renewable resource... all I have to do is let a few horny cats outside over the weekend then in 2 months... BAM! More kitty-fuel.

15. but it takes thousands of kittens to equal a whale
but if you throw in puppies, it makes it a bit easier

a 50:50 kitten-puppy ratio is pretty good

10. About 50/50... when a bulb burns out I replace it with a CFL if I have any onhand.
LED lighting is ugly. CFL is the most I'm willing to inconvenience myself.

11. Almost all CFL and LED except for a very few that are hard to reach and aren't used often
I switched out the bulbs when we moved in; the electric bill immediately went down noticeably.

12. I use them strategically...especially outdoors.
And they really do help bring down the energy usage. However, my eyes are pretty light-sensitive, especially to flourescents and LEDs, so I have to be careful, or I get bad headaches. The right lenses help alleviate that quite a bit, though (and I'm wearing tinted glasses right now, actually). I also try to only use lights where I really need to, and utilize as much natural light as possible, which is pretty easy to do here in AZ.

13. using up old ones - cutting electric doesn't help bills they just raise the rates to get same revenu
revenue - just like gas - they have decided what income they want so the more you save the higher the rate

16. I'm trying to replace all with CFL however the light sensors don't work with them
I have 4 outdoor fixtures that all use those light sensors. The problem is those light sensors in a sense force the light to flicker and that kills the CFL bulbs. I tried to use a CFL in one but the bulb burned out after about a day.

So at this point, as bulbs burn out, we replace with CFL except for the outdoor bulbs.
