Operation Payback: Facebook BANNED Our Page
Anonymous, an activist hacker group that has been disabling websites in a show of support for WikiLeaks, claims that Facebook has just banned its page.

Anonymous tweeted via its "Operation Payback" Twitter account, @Anon_Operation, "FACEBOOK JUST BANNED OUR PAGE," with a screenshot of a notice from Facebook that its page, "Operation Payback" was "removed for violating our Terms of Use." (See screenshot below)

Facebook's notice reads,

A Facebook Page is a distinct presence used solely for business or promotional purposes. Among other things, Pages that are hateful, threatening, or obscene are not allowed. We also take down Pages that attack n individual or group, or that are set up by an unauthorized individual.

Operation Payback describes itself as "an ongoing campaign by Anonymous against major anti-piracy & anti-freedom entities." Recently, MasterCard, Visa, PayPal, Sarah Palin, Joe Lieberman, and WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange's Swedish prosecutor have all been targeted by the group.

2. solely for business or promotional purposes? I thought Facebook was solely about getting a date.
That's what it was for in the beginning, anyway ;-)

I would be impressed if Operation Payback hacked in and reinstated their page!

4. That reminds me about Tim Berners-Lee's warning.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=103x571502

Sir Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of the world wide web, warned that social networks like Facebook, LinkedIn, and Friendster constitute one of "several threats to the Web's universality," arguing that such sites create "closed silos of content" that may threaten the Internet's status as a "single, universal information space."

Thanks for the thread, Joanne.

about Twitter excluding wikileaks from their trends.

9. you should be happy
All it's doing is killing any potential support for Assange/Wikileaks. And all just to make yourselves feel better.

The only difference you're collectively making is pissing off the people whose needs and conveniences you're fucking with. Those people are not going to give a crap about the reason you fucked with their needs and conveniences, and they are going to vent their ire on both the people that fucked with their needs and conveniences and Assange/Wikileaks for the reason for having their needs and conveniences fucked with.

You're doing nothing but making yourselves feel better in a petty and childish way while really hurting any potential support for Assange/Wikileaks.

If you want to help, than do something that actually has the potential to help. Boycott, write LTTE's, badger journalists, badger everyone that's trying to mess with Wikileaks INCLUDING any Dems and the administration (in case you haven't noticed, it's a Dem WH that's putting the hurt on Wikileaks), figure out a way to donate, etc.

What the hell were you people thinking? Do you REALLY think that pissing off the prosecutor's office is going to HELP Assange??? All it's going to do is make them ever more determined. You think he's going to be HAPPY about that??? You think Wikileaks will be HAPPY that this does nothing but turn AWAY any potential support???

EPIC. COLOSSAL. FAIL.

17. I'm just glad SOMEBODY is beginning to fight back.........
in the class war. Up to now it's been a class massacre and the workers and middle class have been the ones massacred.

18. just what the hell does this do to fight back against class war?
Absolutely fucking NOTHING. NOTHING. NOTHING. It's nothing but petty childish lashing out that will brutally hurt who they claim to support. That's ALL it's doing.

And what else it's likely going to do is give the govenment all the excuse they need to control the internet as they've always wanted to do.

Still glad?
