Potentially good news: reporters on twitter are saying Reid is delaying the DADT vote until tomorrow
Edited on Wed Dec-08-10 06:13 PM by BzaDem
Why is this good news? Most people thought that if the vote were held today, it would fail, and Reid would not hold another vote (and simply blame Collins for it collapsing). The fact that it is pushed back to tomorrow means that they are still actually negotiating in good faith, rather than devolving into recriminations. Collins said she would support it fully if Reid gives 4 days and 10 amendments to the Republicans, and that seems like something Reid should agree to.

Repealing DADT still relies on Susan "Lucy" Collins and one other Republican Senator (Brown? Murkowski?), so I won't believe it till it happens. But this at least is potentially good news.

1. It's a huge bill besides DADT.

Give them their 4 days. I don't care.

I think it means Lieberman was able to back off the dogs.

2. Negotiating in good faith?
LOL....

I doubt it. I'll believe it when I see it. Not holding my breath.

6. Feels needlessly tenuous to me
like most things in Congress.

7. It definately does. More needlessly here, since the debate isn't over the substance, but over stupid
procedure for talking about the substance. (They agree on the substance.)

8. Collins thinks that her colleagues who disagree with her on DADT
should be allowed to offer amendments to strip it from the bill

5. And, there's a working week before the recess, at least.
