Be Aware: Anarchy is the New Talking Point Regarding Wikileaks/Anon
Edited on Wed Dec-08-10 06:48 PM by FamousBlueRaincoat
I have seen the allegations thrown all around here. So instead of replying to a million threads, I just though I would make everyone aware of the talking point of the day regarding wikileaks and anonymous.

I don't know who started the talking point - I first heard it while listening to NPR this afternoon. A former Clinton speechwriter accused Assange of being an anarchist probably at least a dozen times. It occured during hour two of this show: http://whyy.org/cms/radiotimes/

Since then, I have seen this accusation thrown around many times here and elsewhere.

So, just as a couple of days ago, the meme was "pointless gossip!". Today, it is "anarchy!"

So I just wanted to make sure...just in case you are the type of person who is generally supportive of Wikileaks, but REALLY REALLY SCARED OF ANARCHISTS...I believe that it is just a talking point that you should be none too concerned with.

Thanks for your time! We now return to your regularly scheduled programming....

2. nothing
But lots of people are "scared" of them. I have no problem with anarchists. I used to hang in their circles...Bakunin changed everything for me. I just wanted everyone to be aware of the new insult.

11. actually Somalia is a libertarian paradise
not an anarchist paradise...

Thought it would be good to clarify.

Ever read Bakunin? Somehow I doubt it.

12. they don't have an anarchist movement in Somalia
But that's the reason why i tried to keep the thread simple, being about the scare tactic, not about the actual ideology. Props to krabigirl for trying to advance an argument not ready to be advanced though...

5. As with any abstract concept used copiously or liberally,
Some agreement on definition and understanding its intent can facilitate discussion. We see it often used as a synonym for chaos. Of course, there are deeper and more scholarly dissertations on the history and present day applications of anarchism in relation to movements if people are interested. Since it does not refer only to a state of disorder, (depending on who defines order) its political ramifications are noteworthy, in this case.

Wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarchy

Anarchy (from Greek: ἀναρχίᾱ anarchíā, "without ruler") may refer to any of the following:

* "No rulership or enforced authority."<1>
* "A social state in which there is no governing person or group of people, but each individual has absolute liberty (without the implication of disorder)."<2>
* "Absence of government; a state of lawlessness due to the absence or inefficiency of the supreme power; political disorder."<3>
* "Absence or non-recognition of authority and order in any given sphere."<4>
* "Acting without waiting for instructions or official permission... The root of anarchism is the single impulse to do it yourself: everything else follows from this." <5>

Merriam Webster Dictionary:

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/anarchy

Definition of ANARCHY1

a : absence of government b : a state of lawlessness or political disorder due to the absence of governmental authority c : a utopian society of individuals who enjoy complete freedom without government
2
a : absence or denial of any authority or established order b : absence of order : disorder <not manicured plots but a wild anarchy of nature — Israel Shenker>
3
: anarchism

19. Right. It's fear-mongering to warn people that they can get malware and viruses by clicking on blind
links. Or that blind links can open a file with hundreds of consumer credit cards.

24. Are they saying that anarchy
is what happens when the well-trained, well-paid media have their jobs taken over by others?
We will have to see what that looks like after all these years of media and their so-called journalists keeping the spin intact and the truth concealed.
