Hows about a new cable "Activist" channel?
I'd surely tune in....wouldn't you??? (Hey Ted Turner....are you reading?)

A reality show of sorts whereby you take the basic components of this particular type of popular genre as of late and instead of illustrating shallow, stupid "has nothing really to do with my own life" escapism type of dynamics so prevalent in this ever-so-popular format and tweak it just enough to make it compelling enough to induce local action by highlighting (and giving some hope) that through local activism....things DO actually change for the better, and by golly - here is proof in the pudding as illustrated by these such and such segments - well, I just think that would be a good thing! (When in Rome.....)

I suggested this idea to Bertha Lewis, ACORN CEO & Chief Organizer earlier this year before this great organization took a nose-dive...to no avail.

But I still think it has some merit.

I have posted in my office: "One of the intentions of corporate-controlled media is to instill in people a sense of dis empowerment, of immobilization and paralysis. Its outcome is to turn you into good consumers. It is to keep people isolated, to feel that there is no possibility for social change." ~ David Barsamian, journalist and publisher.

I think its high time that some kind of activist-reality based show like this (or something similar) be made and broad casted to the general viewing public...andI think that time is NOW!

1. Yes, I'm sure ...
... News Corp, or NBC/Comcast, or ABC/Disney will hop right on that one. :(

2. Oh they would if they thought it would make ............
them some more money. That's the capitalist's ONLY consideration, "Is it profitable?". Unfortunately, for it to get to the point where it would SHOW whether it was profitable or not, they WOULD have to green light it.

Though if memory serves...it seems that he is rather outspoken and not afraid to go against the grain....or am I confused here? It's George Soros - right? What's his story? (Sometimes its hard to tell whether someone is being sarcastic or not?) Some comedian I saw not too long ago on the Comedy Central cable channel suggested that a new font be brought into existence: the "sarcastica" font: ~

6. Yes it does as a matter of fact....
And I DO like it! And I have seen much more exposure about their subject matter growing leaps and bounds as of late....I'm thinking...didn't they win some kind of award of something recently on their Vanguard series? (Oh am I confusing them with another channel?)

Perfect venue for my proposal. Thanks for your reply! :-)

5. Good idea
Who would the big advertisers be? How large of a viewership would there be, remember, ratings are everything when it comes to selling advertising. You'd have to come up with some pretty sweet bottom line projections to sell it to potential investors.

8. I agree.
The practical matters of sponsorship do exist.

So far as I can tell from the Current channel, it is pretty much a snippet of regular infomercials and as "As Seen On TV" stuff...i.e., Chia Pets and the Bumpit(?) hair thingy or whatever...but hey - if it pays the bills....you know?

The Current Channel - They are based somewhere out of NC - am I right?
