6. I would not go that far YET
this is more like a riot... for the moment. Time will tell. And as a historian this story will be hard to follow if this pans out to be the first event in the revolution, as it were.

Perhaps been readying too much into actual riots and all that.

20. Absolutely, and if this is a riot
at least I don't have to order my rigs to stay out of the zone...

The last time I was near one I gave one order and the rig that violated that order got a windshield broken.

In cyber terms there are a lot of windshields broken right at the moment

29. Ambulance
one night I was about to go home EARLY when literally power went off in half the city.

So instead of going home over the radio, police radio, we got reports of a riot forming. This was about a year after the LA Riots... and as the Company Commander I took my hand held, took command of all EMS units in the city, Red Cross or no RED CROSS, and ordered all units to switch to tactical. Then I gave an order, no ambulance was to enter the zone without police escort.

One of the volunteers from another group disobeyed the order... when they limped back to OUR station, their windshield was all cracked and their ambulance was dinged all over. On the bright side, nobody got hurt. Yes, when I got the report that cops had to go retrieve them, we thought we'd be getting two injured medics. Silly wabbits, they thought angry people would not stone their ambulance.

Oh the riot lasted all the way to ten in the morning... and that was our only casualty.

Police Chief asked me where I got that bright idea? I told him, LA RIOTS and CNN coverage.

I got this notification an hour ago and was busy... and it was still bumpy when I tried, but the DOS seems to be OK, now.

As I've said, I work in IT security, so the person I got it from was monitoring it for a white hat reason.

Edited on Thu Dec-09-10 12:34 AM by AlabamaLibrul
but they're doing something.

I think that this will be "aggressively investigated", and it probably gives anti-Net Neutrality people more ammunition (These cyber-anarchists are attacking America's most prestigious financial corporations - the credit cards that charge 25% when the bank that owns it will give you a tenth of 1% in a savings account, our best donors, our FRIENDS! - from mother's basement).

Then, people might remember what it feels like to take to the streets. Not even over Assange necessarily (although it'll happen) but just to do something again.

46. Net neutrality
I feel like I'm back in 2000 again. Before DU it was one of the best places to find out what was happening in the US regarding the contested (s)election of w bush.

Now I'm back to the Gaurdian reading the latest about JA and wikkileaks.

This has made me pay attention to what net neutrality is about and what it means. It's clear to me now that it's a BFD.

68. Personally, I wish more ebay sellers and other small time vendors
would accept methods of payment other than PayPal. I miss the days of mailing a money order snail mail for purchases, as I am one of those stubborn people who doesn't like credit cards nor paypal.

PayPal is Meg Whitman's baby.

72. Sellers aren't allowed to ask for a non-electronic payment
so that pretty much means Paypal only. You can ask the seller if you can use a money order, but they'll probably be paranoid and tell you no.

73. One of the reasons I stopped selling on ebay.
I prefer receiving money orders. I even allowed buyers to mail small amounts of bills ($2 to $10). Ah, the good old days! Small-timers like me have no business on ebay anymore. Now it's mostly drop-shipments straight from China.

35. It really is a movement. Free Press. It's worth fighting for
and we in the U.S. have failed miserably to do anything about the takeover of our own press. We could not even get a boycott going.

Wikileaks is awesome. These people are fearless. They are not just being threatened by the U.S. but have made enemies in other countries like Kenya, Iran, Somalia by exposing the bad guys there also. I admire their courage.

I think they will unite people around the world who for too long have been victims of corrupt governments and it's just possible that an era of real change is about to begin. It has to, things cannot go on as they are. As always, the powerful become too greedy, too oppressive, never satisfied with what they've taken, they always want more. And then it reaches a tipping point for their victims. And this may be it. I hope so.

I can't believe we're witnessing this so close up. When you combine the injustice to Assange for outing international corruption with the rising tide of Socialism in the West, the anger about the wars, the anger about world economics, I think they severely miscalculated.

They're probably getting briefings right now and asking lame technical questions. They are in over their heads.

Yes indeed they are.

I am imagining and smiling as I do. Welcome to the first cyber war. The heat is being turned on the Julian's persecutors.

If Rush, Hannity and the rest of the scum in the corporate media of bullshit, lies, and distortions can enjoy free speech then so can these men/women. I believe they're doing this for the greater good. Unlike the others, and they aren't corporate whores - they have proof.

Plenty of time to read it and digest like you said.

Plenty of time to cut up your Visa and Mastercard and refuse to purchase anything Ebay or Amazon. Plenty of time to close your Facebook account and boycott all the organizations that are helping to persecute him. Plenty of time to take the money for last minute Christmas gifts and send it to Julian's defense.

Plenty of time for an awakening international solidarity movement to wage a full scale war.
