Why the tax cuts matter.
If you will remember, the Tax Cuts were highly objectionable to the grassroots Democrats. Not just because we have a general dislike for wealthy people. Not just because we whined about everything that Bush did. It was important because it was a harmful policy aimed towards helping wealthy cronies while at the same time crippling our government.

-- The Bush tax cuts was one of the rallying points against Bush. It was a sharp criticism of him that was on the tongue of every Democratic politician at the time. They were emblematic of fiscal irresponsibility.

-- The Deficit and the Debt have been are are still being used to attack progressive policies and programs like Health Care reform, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, infrastructure investment, Unemployment insurance, etc. Republicans are on record stating that they want to shrink the size of the Federal Government. These programs are constantly under attack. By raising the deficit, you are giving critics of these programs more ammunition.

The Democrats in Congress don't escape criticism for this. The Bush tax cuts could never have been passed without Democratic support. Once Obama became president, and both houses enjoyed majorities, there was nothing to stop the Democrats from trying to repeal the Bush tax cuts. They didn't have to wait for two years.

This isn't just about marginal spending or about us versus them. This is about trying to preserve what we have fought for for centuries. If you don't see that, Mr. President, then you need to study the issue a little closer.

7. The ONLY "Democratic" support to Bush*'s tax cuts was Ben Nelson
He alone gave the Republicans their fifty votes so Dick Cheney could cast the tie breaking vote. The tax cuts were passed by reconcilliation because Democrats filibustered them.. There is a Core Democratic Principle at stake here...Progressive Taxation..When Bill Clinton came to Power it was in the middle of a very severe recession and every Republican told him he could not do two particular things, raise taxes and cut Defense. He Did Both...His first Budget was also passed by reconcilliation and Al Gore had to cast the tie breaking vote.. America did not collapse as every single Republican said it would. The military did not disintegrate as every single Republican said it would. In fact America went on to experience the "Greatest Economic Expansion in History" Bush* was elected and with the help of "Democrat" Ben Nelson created the "Greatest Economic Turn Around in History"

8. How come they only needed 50 votes?
I thought you needed 60 votes to get anything through the Senate.:sarcasm: I guess that only works against Democrats.
