16. Probably just a script kiddie.
So they'll arrest a few of these "smackers" who downloaded the DDOS software and weren't smart enough to bounce their attacks. Meanwhile, they won't get within 2 continents of those smart enough to proxy.

19. I would agree
From what I've read, they were using a program called LOIC, which from what I could tell, does not proxy, it mearly launches IP traffic at a specific target. Without a proxy, this kid was easy to track down.

if that means thinking standing up to war criminals and the 1% who want to own EVERYTHING and EVERYONE on the planet is an honorable thing to do.

He distributed information about US contractors buying child prostitutes for Afghan officials. Someone must stop this immoral minor from revealing such information!

10. No crime is too small
When the global empire is so threatened by a 16 year-old with spare time and spare bandwidth that it must act swiftly and harshly, then I don't see it as a sign of overwhelming power as much as it is a warning that the wheels are about to come off.

27. And the dumbasses just created a new cause,
Free (16 year-old Dutch boy)!

USA, EU, PayPal, NSA, Dutch Police, all vs. a 16 year-old kid. Talk about an asymmetry. Yet none of them had the good sense just to ring the house and have a civil sit-down with the parents.

Arrest one and a hundred more will rise up before you have the time you need to finish putting your police world in place.

37. Left free? Did he hurt anyone, or steal, or break a window?
He didn't tag a bridge, no, at its core he's accused of sending too many packets.

cnet: "The Dutch National Prosecutors Office said that the teen, who was not named, was arrested by a high-tech crime team last night."

So we're told to be so fearful of this shadowy, unpredictable group and the high-tech crime team swoops in -and picks up a script-kiddie. From the speed of the apprehension, what maybe LOIC with no proxy?

So rather than have a chat with a neighborhood cop who politely says "Knock that shit off", he gets crime-team arrested. That's beyond heavy-handed, that's just dumb.

24. If the global empire had been charging and arresting war
criminals like Bush and Cheney and Blair instead of ignoring them to pursue 16-year-old script kiddies and surprise sexers, then mayhaps the wheels would have had Truth and Justice to tighten them before they became so loose.

can be hacked by a 16-year-old. Must be damned embarrassing for the PTB to have the whole world know about it.

The Girl Who Played With Fire

...I hear that was a big mistake. I'm not much into fiction to begin with, but I was really having trouble trying to get into it. I explained that to someone and she told me that you have to read Dragon Tatoo first.

Chances are I will end up trying to find them at the public library. Some 'series' I can read each book as an individual tale, so it's nice to know not try to start with just any of the books.

48. That's what it looks like.
Be honest, Torch- you've been against the entire premise of all these events from Day One. You love the status quo. It's truth on its face. You cannot escape that. Nearly every post I've ever read by you has supported authority and authorities, lashed out against any action that upsets their applecart (however small that action may be), and in general trashed any sort of effective activism.

You are, quite literally, one of the targets, in the broadest sense of the word. That this scares the living piss out of you not only should come as no surprise to anyone, but is in fact one of the desired goals.

You are who wikileaks and its supporters fight. You made that bed; now you get to lay in it.

53. It's directed at people who are more concerned about taking down Visa's site for an hour
than they are about the illegal and immoral actions of our government. Illegal wars killing innocent people, torture, disregard of Geneva Conventions, assaults on free speech and privacy rights, etc, etc, etc.

It's directed at people who don't seem to like any form of protest or civil disobedience unless it's safely in a history book or in a foreign country.

So, I guess you can decide if you feel like that's directed at you or not.
