6. I voted yes, but it will not be "civil". The poor and downtrodden will have to resort to very nasty
guerilla tactics, each on their own without centralized organizing, to hurt the rich and powerful to the point they completely capitulate.

7. Oh definitely!!! And we'll get hit by an asteroid. And we'll be forced to eat grass seed. And our
economic system will collapse so the new currency ironically will be dug up old Roman coins.

Enjoy the doom!!

9. When we were a kid, we laughed at folks who thought the climate would change
Even most teachers (this was the 80's) thought that our grandkids would see the effects first...

Just sayin'

8. 4 years ago I predicted a divide into 2 countries
and people laughed at me. Eventually it will be the FUNDIES that spearhead secession - into what someone termed "Jesusland" - South Carolina to Texas. Fine with me.

15. Remember this classic?
Dear Red States:

We're ticked off at the way you've treated California and we've decided we're leaving.

We intend to form our own country and we're taking the other Blue States with us.

In case you aren't aware that includes Hawaii, Oregon, Washington, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois and all the Northeast.

We believe this split will be beneficial to the nation and especially to the people of the new country of New California.

To sum up briefly:

You get Texas, Oklahoma and all the slave states.

We get stem cell research and the best beaches.

We get Elliot Spitzer. You get Ken Lay.

We get the Statue of Liberty. You get OpryLand.

We get Intel and Microsoft. You get WorldCom.

We get Harvard. You get Ole' Miss.

We get 85 percent of America's venture capital and entrepreneurs.
You get Alabama.

We get two-thirds of the tax revenue. You get to make the red states
pay their fair share.

Since our aggregate divorce rate is 22 percent lower than the Christian Coalition's we get a bunch of happy families. You get a bunch of single moms.

Please be aware that Nuevo California will be pro choice and anti war and we're going to want all our citizens back from Iraq at once. If you need people to fight ask your evangelicals. They have kids they're apparently willing to send to their deaths for no purpose and they don't care if you don't show pictures of their children's caskets coming home.

We wish you success in Iraq and hope that the WMDs turn up but we're not willing to spend our resources in Bush's Quagmire.

With the Blue States in hand we will have firm control of 80% of the country's fresh water, more than 90% of the pineapple and lettuce, 92% of the nation's fresh fruit, 95% of America's quality wines(you can serve French wines at state dinners) 90% of all cheese, 90 percent of the high tech industry, most of the US low sulfur coal, all living redwoods, sequoias and condors, all the Ivy and Seven Sister schools plus Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Cal Tech and MIT.

With the Red States you will have to cope with 88% of all obese Americans and their projected health care costs, 92% of all US mosquitoes, nearly 100% of the tornadoes, 90% of the hurricanes, 99% of all Southern Baptists, virtually 100% of all televangelists, Rush Limbaugh, Bob Jones University, Clemson and the University of Georgia.

We get Hollywood and Yosemite, thank you.

38% of those in the Red states believe Jonah was actually swallowed by a whale, 62% believe life is sacred unless we're discussing the death penalty or gun laws, 44% say that evolution is only a theory, 53% that Saddam was involved in 9/11 and 61% of you crazy bastards believe you are people with higher morals then we lefties.

We're taking the good pot too. You can have that dirt weed they grow in Mexico.

Sincerely,
Author Unknown in New California.

11. We are currently in a protracted class war ...
So, anything is possible as long as that continues to be the case.

The sad part is that the "other side" is not clearly aware, (yet) that they have been under massive, relentless attack. So, if a civil war is prudent, it will be formulated and fomented. The manipulative technology is far too much along now to assume natural emergence of reaction. McPravda is a major factor for now.

Most of the divisiveness served-up has been demonstrated to be successful, so it is a useful tool for the current winners. We can expect to see it and watch it tear apart potentials for unity. Maybe that will wear off though and more waking-up will occur. That's the variable.

and grossly wealthy vs. many in the RW and LW united more than we think. Eventually, something has to give or by far the majority of this country will live in servitude.

17. Not sure
Edited on Thu Dec-09-10 03:54 PM by MyshkinCommaPrince
I can imagine some kind of violent uprising of religious crazies happening, but I'm not sure that would extend to civil war. On the other hand, I'm sure political, social, and economic conditions will be unlike anything I can imagine in fifty or sixty years, so it's hard to say. Also, I may not be thinking about the idea of "civil war" in adequately broad terms.

It doesn't seem likely that we'll see any kind of organized revolt in this country of poor against rich. It will be poor against poor or rich against rich, if there's violent conflict for any economic reason. We'll collectively continue to take any amount of increased inequality until the point has been reached where class-based revolt just can't happen any longer. Perhaps we've reached that point already, even decades ago. Rich against poor won't have to be a violent conflict. That can just continue as it has been.

I can imagine the country degenerating into some kind of balkanized state, with the federal government collapsing and the different regions fighting one another, but if it comes to that I'm not sure how it would be civil war.

Man, I'm pessimistic today. Sorry about that. Might be because it's too danged cold.
