Poll question: After all the posturing, what will Democrats in Congress eventually do about the expiring tax cuts?
Edited on Thu Dec-09-10 07:35 PM by bigtree
Who knows what Congress will do if they manage to allow all of the Bush tax cuts to expire (either by design or gridlock)? But, before they expire Congress will do something besides write letters and make statements about how pissed they are that the President presumes to do their job for them. What do you think will be the result of their latest epic pout?

3. There's really no doubt in my mind that the cuts will be extended.
All of them, more than likely.

4. They will pass
They are putting more things in as we speak to help get the votes. What I see going on is a lot of democrats, many who probably fought NOT to vote on the tax cuts before the election, putting up a great show for the voters. This whole problem was their fault. They could have taken this on a long time ago, or they could have done it before the elections, but they chickened out. Now instead of them taking the heat for what they did, it's being dumbed on the president! I don't agree with everything in the bill, I don't want to see tax cuts for the rich, but it was pretty obvious that congress wasn't going to get anything done about getting the tax cuts for the middle class, nor getting unemployment extensions. The president did what he though need to be done, and he got a lo more to boot. Yes, we will have to fight the tax cuts for the rich another day, but if nothing had been done and the expired, republicans would have put a bill on the floor to make all the tax cuts "PERMANENT" and then if democrats voted against it they would have said it was the democrats and Obama who "raised" taxes on everyone!

Maybe congress needs to start doing their job instead of being to chicken to do anything, and yes the president needs to get tough as hell, but unless congress does their job, the president can't do his!

5. They'll either pass with Obama's proposals now or without them in January.
Hopefully now.

6. this is a "win-win" for the (R)s
If they pass then they got the tax cuts they wanted. If/when the economy recovers then they say it was their tax cuts that caused the improvement.

If they don't pass then unemployment runs out on millions of Americans and they all blame the Democrats for not approving the compromise.

Like losing in tic-tac-toe to a chicken. Just how the F___ did we allow ourselves to be out positioned on such a simple issue? Oh, I remember, we didn't do it before the election.
