Does anyone here NOT believe that things are about to get a whole lot worse?
I almost feel worse than I did when we were in the depths of the "Bush years".

Then, I was looking forward to the last two years---when we had a Democratic president and majorities in both houses.

Now, I feel like we may have been allowed to scoop up a few crumbs but, the party's over. Now, those who really run things are no longer amused with our "quaint" notions of democracy and will not even bother to conceal their greed and arrogance for the next decade or two. By the time their current crop of useful idiots has run its course, will there be enough time left to heal the damage?

1. "Heal the damage?" No, you can't bring dead poor people back to life.

2. The sharks have only begun to circle.
They've seen how much they can get with the Loser-in-Chief when he has a majority - they are licking their chops to get at him when they have it all.

15. And when this happens...
Edited on Fri Dec-10-10 07:07 AM by TeaBagsAreForCups
... as it most certainly will, our feckless, "progressive" President will stand, yet again, in front of the cameras and proclaim we liberal "purity pricks" the true cause of this even sadder state of affairs.

3. Jerry Brown is about to take office (again)
There is at least some reason for hope. But I am beginning to believe that I might live to see the day that California is no longer part of whatever the USA ends up being.

4. I am beginning to think that things MUST get a whole lot worse, completely fall apart.
As long as the status quo apparatus remains in place, they'll toy with us, give us glimmers of hope - but they're always in charge. I don't wish for the upheaval but I think it may be necessary.

9. Yes, much worse before it gets better.
A 'bottoming out' must occur for the people to wake up. Prepare yourselves, we are on our own!

5. I believe things are going to get
a hell of a lot worse. And the hope has been striped away that there is someone out there to right the wrongs, because there isn't. Will there be time left to heal the damage? No.

6. I have to
believe that things are going to reach critical mass soon, and people will wake up in droves. It just has to happen.

suffer tremendous losses as a Party and people.

10. The next two years we will have an R house, a senate that can only pass R polices
And a Republican sympathizer president to preside over them.

The rich get richer and the poor get babies.

11. At least with Bush we knew the animal we were dealing with
The Obama transformation has been shocking and unexpected. There is a sense of betrayal I've never felt before.

If not for the voices on this board I would feel much worse.

Yes, things are going to get very bad. The feeling is visceral and cannot be denied.

12. Things can get worse.
Apathy induced atrophy is in my mind the biggest reason why. Too many will be unprepared and panic when they realize the jig is up. Preemptively counter some of that and we might come out the other side not so bloodied. I have two grown kids and a young teeny bopper, one piece of consistent parental commentary over the years is to remind them avidly and often that nothing worthwhile if free or easy. This isn't just about what's worthwhile anymore, it's about defining that. Up and coming generations will know nothing of our standard of existence if we don't hold the line here.

13. every one of you so far have mirrored my own feelings
I used to think I was born into this generation (genX)to be the change from the old men we had seen in office our whole lives...but the machinations of the buracracy are in place and the only way we will see change is to tear it down somehow and restructure it in a more compassionate and fair way

compassion & fairness, hmmmm...those seem like such innate things, but they are certainly not present in these men with unscrutable power and wealth.

Does anyone remember the scene from 'Dogma' in the Mooby boardroom...
I wish I could go Bartleby on ALL their Asses!

(especially Obama, since he *did* let us down and seems to loathe us these days now that he doesn't need us to vote anytime soon...)

16. I don't know.
maybe the dems will show some spine and block the repukes the way they've been doing. I don't have any faith in Obama using the veto pen.

Here in my quaint little state, I do think things will continue to improve. Unemployment is around 5.6 percent. We have a new progressive dem guv who's made some great picks for his cabinet. Our statehouse is filled with good people.
